Green Line Woes: Let's hope there isn't a THIRD Green Line Crash

First Chicago:
CTA Green Line Derailment

Then Boston:
Green Line Crash

Since these things tend to happen in threes, let's hope that DC, LA, or Philly doesn't make these Green Line woes a trifecta!

Or Miami (as the existing Metrorail line from Palmetto station to Dadeland South is now officially known as the Green Line (though few people use that designation). I think the northern extension to the Dade-Broward line will be the Orange Line, or maybe that will be used for the short extension to MIA airport)

SEPTA also tried to market the Subway-Surface lines as the "Green Line", although nobody refers to the trolleys by that designation.

That attempt was made when David Gunn took over SEPTA after he left his job at the T. Prior to his arrival, the Subway-Surface lines were PURPLE, and the Regional Rails were GREEN.

Gunn tried to market the rails at SEPTA using the T's color code system. The setup is as follows:

Orange Line - Broad St Subway

Blue Line - MFSE

Green Lines - Subway-Surface

Silver Lines - Regional Rails

Purple Line - Norristown Line [Rt.100]

Tan or Brown Lines - Media/Sharon Hill Trolleys [101/102]

Red was designated for the PATCO Line [and PATCO had plans to use colors for eventual branches to Mt. Holly (White), and Glassboro (blue)].

The color code systen never took because Philadelphians are a hide-bound, stubborn people who like to hold on to tradition. Even today, many old-time Philadelphians still say they "take the trolley" even though most trolleys have been gone for the last 50 or so years, and are buses now!

Nope. I don't, and like I said, there's no reason to discuss the same thing in multiple threads. Everyone should discuss it once, with the most people, together, to get maximum value from the conversation.

You think that people are too stupid to discuss related things in related topics, which maximizes the probability of more people participating?

Moreover, you've logically contradicted yourself:

Everyone should discuss it once, with the most people, together, to get maximum value from the conversation.

Conversations with the most people will occur when there is more than one topic on a given issue.

Incorrect. There is no contradiction. Also, I do not think people are too stupid. One thread. Everyone. Everyone can see all view points. Everyone can respond accordingly. Everyone can branch off in as many subthreads as they want. But it's all tied together, at the very least, with a single click of VIEW ALL. Makes it easy to both keep track of he discussion AND research the topic later after the discussion is long over. and there are no negatives to keeping it all in one thread. there is no reason not to keep it all in one thread.

You're forgetting about simple probability.

The odds of missing one topic are greater than the odds of missing two topics.

That's why the maximum number of people will be able to participate in discussion of some issue when it is discussed in more than one topic.

I disagree. I don't see how one "misses" a topic. If you are using Chronological Mode, which is the only mode to use if you actually don't want to miss anything, you will see a ton of posts from this one massive thread and will not be able to miss it. If you are using any of the other modes (and I don't know why you would, on a regular basis), then the fewer number of active separate threads would make it easier to see all the threads.

Ok, so he is a good manager, but why does he jump around like that? So many systems, and they all go back to the chit once he leaves. :(

How did he get the job of freelance subway manager? Can i get that job? Did he get some degrees?
Though i look at his status, and HE is the guy that got rid of the excellent BSS and bridge line cars, and who got rid of the R10s so prematurely. Though he also helped get rid of graffitti, which is good.

He is an OK guy, he has my respect for not playing slapdick politics. Though he is not perfect i guess, but totally better than the incompetent walking chits that we have today.

Shame he was fired from amtrak, and that is why it is going to the Chit as well. :(

SEPTA also tried to market the Subway-Surface lines as the "Green Line", although nobody refers to the trolleys by that designation.

At the 13th St. Market -Subway EL, there are staircases painted green, that kind of makes it easy to find the LRV's , one level below.
So maybe that part of the concept works.
