Both engineers in the Harmon Cove died, quite horrifically. The engineer in the locomotive was basically struck by the cab car in his head and neck area. The engineer in the cab car was also struck in the same areas and the locomotive impact tore away most of the operating side of the cab and caused his right arm to be severed. One can only hope that they were both knocked unconscious very early on in the crash.

I would hope Metro North would buy them. Some Hudson line trains could use more cars with middle doors. Perhaps some of the oldest Shoreliner I's could be retired.

The government runs the railroads, and the governments turned their backs on the companies. The PA was the first company to buy cars from the outside: the PA3s by hawker, after that it was all downhill. At that time, they could have easily ordered cars from BUDD, or St. lOuis car, or Pullman, as they were still around before the MTA got to them.

MTA practically forced the latter two companies out of buisiness. Now why are you being arrogant?
Not to mention how the government of the US provided 0 aid to those companies. MTA was thinking about going to BUDD for the 62s, but they didn't have a subsidized price like kawasaki or bombardier due to their helpful governments.

before CometV 's can run into GCT they would need one hell of a rebuilt as the electrical cabinets will not clear signals and certain parts of third rail like in loop.
This is one of reasons CDOT was told they could not buy Comet V for West of Hudson services.

Now they have to make a small percentage in the states, so they send them here from japan, and all we have to do is peel off the plastic wrapping, and fill the cmpressors with american air.

Your premise has no basis because you said "The government owns the railroads" (a general statement, which is false due to the many private railroads that still abound) and "The MTA practically forced (St. Louis Car Company and Pullman Standard) out of business".

And don't ever call me "guy" again.

Plus, you are wrong. General Steel stopped the St. Louis Car Company business in 1968, so there was no St. Louis Car Company to buy any cars from by the time that the PANYNJ was going to buy the PA-3. Budd was damaged by the SPV2000 fiasco and was more focused anyway on their automobile-centered business than on the railroads, even from their beginnings. There has been no Pullman Company since 1969; Pullman Technology has been a part of Bombardier since the early 80s. So who was PATH supposed to buy the PA-3s from, then, if those companies you cited weren't active to pursue bids for them?

I agree with that, yes. Do something instead of nothing. Then those greenway-lovin' mayors of Bethlehem and Hellertown might feel the pressure to get the railroad rebuilt into the Lehigh Valley too instead of having the train stop dead at Quakertown (if that were to happen at all, itself).

May hafta settle for the ole' half a loaf (not that I like it). Better than none at all, 'specially with the NIMBY's that will be all over dat "bringing the EEEEEEEEvil trains back", regardless of the bennys of it....

In regards to the Reading service, should the Berks And Reading Transportation Authority (BARTA) not get their funding source(s)in order, SEPTA could end the service at Pottstown, laying a few storage tracks in the emptiness that was Stowe Yard on the west edge of Montgomery County. Best scenario is, of course, going to Reading, but Berks County isn't known for it's transportation policy, or political connections. IMO that's how we lost the Reading service in the 80's, despite increasing ridership :o(

Wait until Route 309 gets jammed up with people trying to get to the Quakertown rail stations. I don't even think that there are too many NIMBYs in Coopersburg and Hellertown; it's 100 percent on the politicians.

Great when transportation on the rail end of things is balkanized, ain't it? However, we got federal support for roads and airports out the wazoo.
