Also, is it true that the Comet Ib cars are going to be transferred to SEPTA Regional Rail to add more service?Well, as respects the SEPTA rumor, let me offer the following consideration; SEPTA is mostly an EMU operation, and they have, what, 6 or 7 AEM7s? How many push-pull cars do they have? |

There are many Comet I cars left in service. Comet IB's have almost disappeared. The Comet I's won't be around for much longer (think slant R40's). They show up mostly on Main/Bergen trains as well as M&E/Boonton diesels out of Port Morris. |

Those older comets are excellent, and should not go anywhere, they were built to last. They should re-equip them with stronger collision posts, and EMU capability, like they originally came, and let them run for another 40 years. There are more problems with the new cars than the old ones, and the new ones get flats and vibrate and creak and make annoying noises like crazy. SHAME! |

They did, but they are dealing with a spike in ridership and not enough Silverliners or push-pulls to cope. The idea is to use some diesel powered trains from 30th St (lower) on some ex-Pennyslvania branches (Elwyn, Trenton, Thorndale) as a stop-gap until some new MU's arrive. |

Define comfort when related to those cars. The seats? Those leave a lot to be desired the Comet I's original seats were way nicer. Otherwise, the ride is indistinguishable from other Comets, unless your car has wheels with lots of flat spots. |

Exactly, i don't get these people. People just want some new shiny chit to satisfy an unquenchable thirst for new chit. Those new C5s make these anoying noises, like a loose bell, or some loose bolts somwhere, then the creaking, and even popping, an uninviting interior. The ride goes to chit with a few flats on your train, and the creaking and rattling gets worse on those C5s. The old commets have rattles in the seats, the new ones have some weirder rattles. Close your eyes, and you will think you are in an old train. I can imagine what THEY will look like in ten years, like chittos. Not to mention i have seen uneven brake wear on the C5s, which i didn't see on other cars, must be some sort of faulty brake managment system. Why can't they just order robust, simple, and reliable railcars? I can imagine how many issues the Arrow replacements will have, if they are EMUs. Regardless, people will still obsess over shiny chits, even if the old stuff is more reliable.I *DO* like the bigger windows though, that is one plus there. They should rebuild older cars with bigger windows. |

Yup, but they can still rebuild that old R6 line via Ivy Ridge and connect it to the RDG, then run trains from 30th Street's lower level, which they're supposed to do reportedly.Or they can run onto the old B&O. They'd have to build a new 24th Street Station for that. |

This connection would have to be rebuilt, & a switch installed slightly east of the present location, allowing use of the ex-PRR Chestnut Hill line to access the NEC. This IMO is the least expensive of the options discussed. Signalling is in place, room for more trackage ,if needed, exists, & the switches across the NEC are already being used & maintained.

I know the Comet III cabs do not meet current crash safety standards and are due to be converted into trailers only. Besides, there's nothing wrong with the Comet III's as they are. The Comet II's needed a rebuild to be compatible with newer models. The Comet III's can run as they are now until they are retired, which I'd say is a good 10-15 years off. If they don't want them, sell them to the MTA. They're basically Shoreliner III's, but with reversible seats. |
