It was in jest. No offense wanted.

I want what you want too, but what realistically might be more feasible in this day and age: a strong leader who supports the Constitution (who doesn't seem to exist or if they did left preemptively) or a dictator? I sadly think the jadedness of a shrinking middle class and the inability to get the former to exist might lead to a latter as a part of a bargain.

High speed rail should extend from coast to coast to get rid of the airlines monopoly on the travel by the people in this country, people are being treated like shit by the money hungry airlines, nickel and dimming people to death for every little thing. we need another way to travel across the country without all the time consuming delays that's caused by the airlines along with the ever increasing fuel costs. an electric high speed rail system would open up other routes as well, north to south routs would be welcomed I'm sure. it's amazing how our country is advanced in the damn space program but can't compete with European rail service like the TGV or the ICE system. a naiton wide network of high speed rail is a must. Not happening. Rocky Mountains cost a bit too much money to get through, and the city distance is too great. Focus on NEC expansion if possible, SE, Texas, and midwest. Then connect them. Also, CAHSR as a stand alone. The land is fairly flat and open to Denver, but after that, good luck.

Nope. Transcon HSR could work. If Japan can get the Shinkansen through their rather daunting mountain ranges, we can get through the Rockies. Besides, 4% grades would not be a problem, where you can build them.

Pull out of the library (net) any book on any major railroad from the past. This conutry was well served/covered with all kinds of route. Cars killed it all. Heck, the Lehigh Valley RR was a regional road, connected to NYC, and allowed connections anywhere in the continental U.S.. They were the line that delivered all the Bethlehem Steel that built the Empire State Building, among many others.

Cars didn't kill anything. Even the countries that have HSR have no shortage of cars. I don't blame cars at all. The federal government's policies are what "killed" rail investment, as well as their regulations through the ICC that slowed most trains down to 79 mph.

But at least he isn't such a sensationalist, chitting on others to get every vote like hillary "The Bullchit Bitch" Clinton. He isn't rambling about reducing gas prices by 10 cents, or getting out of iraq in 30 days, like the full of bullchit bitch is.

Absolutely. My "brief" feeling of being impressed with her last week is gone. For a brief moment I actually liked her, but then I saw her sipping coffee in a grungy lunchroom in some factory with construction worker types, and I said "Oh please". She will bullshit her way through anything or with anyone to get votes. She seemed so out of place there, and it was SOOOO obvious why she was in that grungy lunch room that I wanted to heave.
It's just like all politicians though. Hey, let's get a photo of the candidate kissing a baby. Oh please.

He won't be playing as much dickoslap as Hillary, that is for sure, but will he be playing? Most likely. He *IS* a politician, but just the better choice. We need an FDR to flush out the chit.

He's also a bullshit artist. Just like all of them. What a "crock" that he's the "new type of politician" and isn't "like all the rest of them". He lies and says the "right" thing also. It's all lies....from all of them.

And McCain is no better in that respect. they all lie. They all 'say what you want to hear". But the choice is just who will be the least "phuckup" out of the three of them (or soon two of them).

I am only leaning towards him, not because I "like" him, but because out of the three, he seems the least "Socialist" to me. i don't like a lot of the stuff that Hillary and Obama have been saying they want to do.

Oh, and PS, george bucs has to pass the federal order to freeze the rent costs and al, that is what nixon did, i believe, during his recession.

What rent costs?

Stalin didn't do anything that Patton couldn't have done. Other than murder 60 million of his own people, that is. Stalin was no good for anyone. If Eisenhower and Roosevelt had a set between them (at least), they would have set Patton loose on the Red Army and we would own Moscow.

Not always.

Romans called their dictator "Caesar", especially following the death of Gaius Julius C. (the longest dictator) and after the advent of Lex Antonius. Nobody liked the office, because the dictator had more powers than the king for the six-month period. Caesars had all the powers of a dictator, which was more than merely ironic.

In Scotland, where my step-daughter lives, pays over $10.00 Americam for a liter of gas. It is all taxes because their population is only about 5 million. They bear the burden, but they do have excellent mass-transit at thier disposal. Any citizen at age 62, can ride all of it free for the rest of their lives.

It's hard to say how to connect NEC with midwest. You've got the Allegheney Mountains to contend with, and the money that would be needed to build true HSR through there could be much better spent of helping to develop other systems. I say get the easier parts done first.

Oh, I don't doubt that none of them will actually boost funding for rail. It's a matter of who will let Amtrak crawl along the longest before they decide to put it out of its misery

Most of the train routes are diesel (Empire Builder, Hiawatha, etc.) Can this be done in a short period of time? Or are the democrats dreaming again?

One word: JetTrain.

Except that that locomotive was mercifully put out of its misery. If you're going to consider that POS then you might as well talk to Talgo America about their proposed FRA compatible Talgo XXI model.

Exactly what has Dubya done that has earned him the ire of those groups which is explicitly spelled out in the constitution as a power granted to the presidency? Hell, is spying on Americans and subverting the FISA courts a power delegated to him by congress?

but what realistically might be more feasible in this day and age: a strong leader who supports the Constitution (who doesn't seem to exist or if they did left preemptively) or a dictator?

The former.

Why don't you go live under a dictatorship and see if you can survive it long enough to come back and tell us how great it is?
