If I dropped my Iphone I would jump down and get it even though it might be broken. Who wouldn't jump down to pick up $600.00? Yes, I was one of the firsts. Plus it has many nice train and trolley photos on it. |

How about this??DONT stand SO close to the edge of the platform and you have nothing to worry about right?? Then you dont have to worry about any trains operated by me or any other T/O coming into a station.. Perhaps turning you into hamburger or taking off a part or two of your body and dealing all the usless drama that we wouldnt have to deal with if you didnt use any common sense right? Just my thoughts... |

As I concur with Railman, how about standing 5 inches or less from the platform edge to begin with?Like the morons at Times Square, north end, or at 34-Penn IRT, or any other station. I say this over and over, all it takes is one dickhead or cunt to lean over the edge, become a 12-9, shut down the entire line, and incovenience as many as 250,000 people. And guess who the majority of the 250,000 angry ppl will point the blame for being late? Not the dickhead or cunt, for sure. |

There's lots of people that could jump down and back up easily. Still it's a risk for obvious reasons and not worth it. I wonder if people would do this in Chicago? Isn't their 3rd rail next to the platform? |

If this happens to you in Toronto, PLEASE just tell the station collector or any other TTC employee and they'll have a supervisor descend to track level SAFELY and get your device.By safely I mean train crews will be advised on the radio and told to use caution at that station, and the supervisor will be wearing a safety vest and using the proper hand signals with his flashlight to warn oncoming trains. As opposed to the average passenger who knows nothing about track level safety procedures. Question... does NYC have a third rail power cut button on the platform accessible to passengers in case they witness someone fall on the tracks or something? There's one on each end of every station platform in Toronto, and transit control will by no means be angry with you for using it if you see an unauthorized person at track level, be it by accident or intentional (although they'll have some choice words for you if you shut the power off to go get your cellphone). There's never any need for a non-TTC employee to be at track level. Ever. |

Question... does NYC have a third rail power cut button on the platform accessible to passengers in case they witness someone fall on the tracks or something? Not that anyone is aware of... Many years ago a former employee told me that there was something you could do if you had a quarter and put it in the right place on the IRT. Apparently it would short a circuit and cause all signals to go red. Anyone ever hear of this and would that still work? |

Question... does NYC have a third rail power cut button on the platform accessible to passengers in case they witness someone fall on the tracks or something? No nothing for the customers to use.. There is a box that us employees can use(in the tunnels) to cut the power IF we can get to it in time if we have to cut power. The power will come back on so we have to continue to use it. An alram goes off at the RCC and alerts them to the location. |

Set it across an IJ.But while you are looking for an IJ, and bending over to place the quarter, the train will already have run up your butt hole. ROARING |

And by the time they do discover us, we will all be customers of Verizon. Which reminds me, I have to call Verizon this morning and get a new phone for the ambulance. That should work on all NYC subway lines, not just the IRT. As Broadway Lion pointed out, all you need to do is put a coin across an IJ and it'll simulate a train occupying the block, setting the signals to red.The instructors demonstrated this during my training... pretty neat actually. |

I see... we have them for employees in the tunnel as well, only once we cut the power it stays cut... power control has to turn it back on, and they'll only do so if an employee confirms that track level is clear. The ones on the station platforms are the same as the ones in the tunnel, except you have to break a plastic shield to access the button. |
