This is due to some genius either riding or walking between the cars between East Tremont Ave and East 180 Street falling down and becoming hamburger..

It was a number 2 train I feel for the T/O who had to discover the body...

I guess people have a problem with the words Do Not Walk Between Cars..

If the MTA would *learn* correct English, they would know that there was

"No (2) or (5) service in EITHER direction..."

When service is restored they would then say:

"(2) and (5) service has been restored in both directions..."

"both" directions is an acceptable usage (OK, maybe not for you). I agree that "either" would be better though.

Both directions works with a positive... There is service in both directions.

You could also say there is service in neither direction.
Or you could say that there is no service in either direction.

But to say that there is no service in both directions just does not sound right, and so their copy writer has been duly eaten by the LION.

"I guess people have a problem with the words Do Not Walk Between Cars.. "

The problem is:

1) The signs posted on the doors look no different than the previous version (except for the text)

2) They are not at eye level. No one looks down at them where they are placed on the doors.

3) They wouldn't pay attention to them anyway.

If the family of the unfortunate victim decides to sue the MTA can cite what the signs say. It isn't their fault no one reads or obeys them (the family will probably win anyway).

Update: just read in Saturdays rag that it was a female peeing in between cars who lost her balance. Another idiot loses their life doing something stupid with a train crew having to have this horror on their minds and having to go thru the associated nonsense. Same with an "A" crew during the midnight hours Wednesday morning who had one at Van Siclen.

The sticker went from "Riding between cars prohibited" to "Riding OR moving between cars prohibited".

But folks still do it. I guess they see the conductor ride between cars, they assume they could too.

No, it's because New Yorkers have been doing it for so many years that they're not going to let a little inconvenient thing called a 'law' stop them from doing it.

Nope, it was posted that she was peeing between cars. Yet again we see that walking between cars is very safe. It is the people who are riding between cars that get killed.

Folks do it. It's not inherently dangerous, if done properly. People who can't or won't do it properly simply shouldn't. Like many other things in life, discretion is required.

Walking between cars can, I'm sure, be dangerous too; it's not for, e.g., people who have a poor sense of balance, who are mentally impaired, or who are physically disabled.

Walking between cars is safe. Riding between cars is not.

Perhaps both can be safe, depending on the person. However, they make up rules to apply uniformly, so I can understand the reasoning behind such. My own opinion is that a violation should be issued to persons who plainly shouldn't be engaging in either behavior, and also, that one assumes the risk for passing between cars.

Almost everyone who dies is riding between, not walking. And almost everyone who dies is doing something stupid while riding between. And since there's no sane reason to ride between, walking between should be allowed and riding between should not. And hey, that was the rules for like forever until recently.

Yea like peeing while between cars.

The curves along this secion of the WPR line are nasty, and East Tremont has two of them.

She couldn't wait until she got home and used a thing called a toilet?

RIGHT!

I used to love riding between the cars, especially on the Arnines, Pretend I was the conductor with one foot on each car. Once in a while I sneaked up onto the C/Rs position. On the off side. Didn't want to get caught, you know.

And if they have to pee that badly, then they were probably drinking something that would cause them to pee, to have impaired balance and impaired judgment. That combination, AND combined with footplates that are obviously wet and slipery, AND that one hand was probably holding on to garments rather than hand grabs.

Well, it didn't work out for her, now did it?

They been cracking down and handing them out like candy. Seen a few people getting pulled off the J Train the other day.

Yeah, I got talked to about it at Stillwell over the summer. November train was in the station, we boarded and were heading towards the middle from the head end. We walked between two cars, then as we're about to do the same to move onto the next car we see two cops there. So we go out and around, and as we do they stop us anyway b/c they obviously had been tracking us the whole way and saw us go between the first two cars. They just told us to stop, we said OK and went on our way. Lucky we didn't get a ticket. I guess they're getting stricter now because of idiots like this.
