Date of Dante's Passing |
|
|
Posted by RedbirdR33 on Sat Apr 21 20:23:40 2007 As you know I am still compling dates for the Tuscarora Almanac of important rail events. Right now I only have a few months completed and I'm always adding new stuff as it become available and I have the time.Dante was a fine young man and a great railfan as well as an important contributor to our store of information about the transit system. So I would like to include a section in the Almanac about him. I'm unsure though of the exact date of his passing. Would someone please e-mail me with it or post it here. Thanks Larry, RedbirdR33 |

I hope anyone reading this has given to cancer research. It needs it to save lives, badly.Cancer needs to be cured more than AIDS or Iraq. Dante would be alive if cancer got the funding of either of those. |

I used to have the game board that rotated with the little squares to drop the letter pieces in so they wouldn't shift. With the letter "Q" commanding ten points, I couldn't never think of enough words that began with that letter. On one game with my former girlfriend she spelled out tuber. I asked what the hell is that ? She said, "tuber, the big brass instrument." She of course meant tuba. So I consulted a dictionary and low and behold, there was the word tuber which was not a brass instrument. So I sort of lost the arguement. After that I never used a dictionary to challenge the validity of words when playing Scrabble. Bill "Newkirk" |

Cancer will probably not be cured in my lifetime or your lifetime. It is understood that cancer stems from uncontrolled growth of tumour cells. However it is not clear what causes this uncontrolled growth. There are several theories, some involving virus action, some involving cancer-causing chemicals that are present in the environment, and some involving certain genetics that makes it such that the impact of environmental stimuli is much more pronounced. Physicans know how to remove tumours, and to a point, stop them from coming back. However without a clear understanding of many factors that may cause an otherwise normal cell to turn cancerous, there probably won't be a way to reverse the process or prevent the process from starting. It'll take a long time to understand the process and therefore design a cure. Cancer is a much more complex problem than the single-agent diseases of yesteryear like TB or syphilis. It won't be solved anytime soon. If I were to make a bet, I'd say HIV would be solved before cancer is. HIV has a single causal agent that mutates easily. If technology can somehow disrupt the reproductive process to the point where a mutation cannot circumvent it, it'll be bye-bye to the immuine retroviruses. Cancer, on the other hand, isn't a single-agent ailment. AEM7AC |

My wife's brain tumor which was a glioblastoma multiforme was removed my her doctor. 10 months alter, After undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, she passed away. The Sub-Chat group here knows of my woes. Cancer is nothing to mess with. That is why my left kidney was removed. I'm not sure exactly what Dante had, but I'll bet it was a non-curable brain tumor. Dante died at 19, my wife at 54. there is no fairness in this . |

Cancer is worse than AIDS and needs many times the funding of AIDS. It also needs more awareness given how far more people die of it and cancer effects a lot more of people overall. For the memory of Dante, your wife, and the millions upon millions of other cancer victims, there should be a Cancer Victims Memorial somewhere in salute of all of their sacrifices. Bulldoze down some buildings in DC or NYC or somewhere, cancer victims need a living memorial. Cancer is the new AIDS, and I would sacrifice my life to save anyone dying of cancer. I would take a country hooked on coke and the mullahs running Iraq if it meant a cure for cancer. |

On Long Island, it's the golf courses, in Philly and Delaware, it's the water that comes downstream from Jersey, in some other places, it's the air. Sugar packets, too much of this, too little of that, practically everything causes cancer in some way, shape, or form. I'm sorry, but this one is going to take a while. It's a real shame |

Regardless of whether or not you agree with Scrabbleship's opinion, he expressed a heart-felt sentiment regarding cancer, and of course Dante did die, ultimately, because he had cancer. I may not write a check tomorrow to a cancer research fund because of Dante, but I respect other people's desire to do so because they want to help people with similar illnesses. Do you think you could show Dante's family a bit more respect? |
