It is because of their superb brakes, good acceleration, the ventilation in the cab (especially during the summer,) and they're comfortable trains to operate in. Plus, there's room on the console to place a cup of coffee without having to worry about it spilling. All in all, a T/O treat. I love 'em!

I'd say that 95% of the T/O's on the A will be sorry to see them go. It's rare to hear something negative about the 38's from a T/O.

An R32 has excellent brakes, but they have the sash windows which can be a b*tch to open and close, and you have to put a shoe slipper into the little mini-step portion (for short C/R's) so that your feet can rest in a correct spot, otherwise it'll be an uncomfortable ride. I also find the R32 to be ergonomically difficult, especially on the back.

No, there's a difference. For example, as much as I hate R68A's, on a day like today with all of the rain I'll take them every time over a 143 or 160. With an R68A, it's all about finesse in making the train stop and knowing when you can, or cannot, let go of the brake. With a 143 or 160, you simply do not know if the train's anti-lock brakes will make you sail out of the station.

The 143's and 160's are total sh*t and I'll avoid them for as long as humanly possible.
