JMHO. How come nobody else reported this? Of course he's a troll.

Conductors are not that dumb on the MTA. I've never encountered anything of the sort while on the subway. How would it be that even this would get by the motorman?—and don't tell me that he wouldn't say something to the conductor.

We don't suffer trolls and/or rats gladly. Come clean and tell the truth. Even if the conductor messed up, the motorman would have caught it and done something about it. A thousand hands banging on the correct side of the train would have gotten the conductor's attention, to boot.

Poor baby, you missed the train. How long did you have to wait for the next express? Did you pass up a local while you were at it? What is the difference in running time on a local vs. an express from Junction Blvd. to Main St.? One minute, maybe two? You weren't satisfied in reporting the incident to the dispatcher, you had to E Mail MTA too? Sounds like double jeopardy to me. Listen to me good: the conductor made a mistake. A rookie mistake. Passenger safety was never jeopardised. The train was fully berthed in the station. It wasn't as if the conductor opened up on the street side. What kind of punishment do you want taken? Suspension? Oh yeah, I bet you have never made a mistake at your job!

Oh, come on. This is NYC we're talking about here. Passengers would be pounding on the doors and windows; and the motorman ain't blind, and certainly both motorman and conductor wouldn't be both blind and deaf.

Nope. In a single cab, with the door closed, you're not hearing or seeing ANYTHING from the other side of the train. Trust me.

What's more surprising is that, if the story is true, none of the customers exiting the train said anything to the C/R about it.

Precisely! Conductors don't have to worry about whether that ball is going to drop for you, whether you can reach the punch and numerous other things. Based on what I've read, the CR had zebras, did the fickle finger of fate, keyed and opened up. Wrong side? My bet is that they didn't know their line and made biggie mistake. They'll get yelled at (since the OP said they banged them in long before posting the drama here) and get a little tick mark in case it ever happens again.

On the older cars, you could hear the doors move in the cab. The newer ones though I've noticed are extremely quiet. I've pulled into 59/CC and had a conductor open wrong side there ... you could HEAR it. BUZZ BUZZ and BUZZ usually got their attention. Newer trains had PA's though they usually figured it out on their own without help. But as I was always fond of saying (and you tickled me with your own comment) "what's BEHIND this cab don't matter ... do I see a pair of yellow lanterns up there?" :)

I'd say it's POSSIBLE unless discredited. When I moved up front, we had a lot of short timers on board and I've had conductors open up while stopped before the car marker at an ST that failed to drop for me with 2-3 cars out, I've had wrong platform opens happen to. Spit does happen. Fortunately, this event as described wasn't one that put anyone in harm's way as could and occasionally does happen.

As others who've done it for a while will tell you - sometimes folks can zone themselves out. It's a very BORING job seeing the same "sights" day after day and God BLESS those who can do it, and do it properly EVERY time ... and show up for work the next day to do it all again.

You mean like the same way a poster posted our salaries(with rasies for all titles) right?

Or how sensititve information concerning V/R people was posted on the MTA website for all to see too?

Is that common sense?

Conductors are not that dumb on the MTA. I've never encountered anything of the sort while on the subway.

Sorry but I did - I almost fell into Coney Island creek thanks to a conductor who opened the doors too soon. IIRC it was either on a D-Type or BMT Standard in regular service - long time ago so the conductor in question has long since retired or passed on...

Cured me of the game I used to play which was to see if I could run out of the car before the door fully opened...

This guy didn't open "doors too soon". They opened at the right time, on a fully functioning platform (that just happened to be the wrong one). No safety issues here at all. He probably even followed all the procedures for opening the doors on that platform. And it's not like people wouldn't have been getting out. Anyone wanting to get off there would have gotten off when the doors opened, so it may have looked perfectly normal.

Oh, I'd LOVE to, however technically (if you check the address, I still put my email address in posts) I can't as a result of our company's privacy policies and the great likelihood of even MORE political retribution for our company ... when one tangles with political realities, one can get SEVERELY burned as was my case. However in just a couple more weeks, my own situation is about to RADICALLY change and as a reault, there will be BEAUCOUP spankings to go around, and as my final act, some politicos are going to JAIL. :)

Stay tuned!

Heh. Some of the current folks have enjoyed some of my escapades as well since I know the score, DID work there and nothing has changed for the better after all these years. :(

>>>>"Conductors are not that dumb on the MTA."<<<<

You can just stow that statement.
About 5/6 years ago I was on a train that went BIE with about 3 cars out of the station. I was in the second car standing by a door when it opened. No, no one fell out, thankfully. Never forget the TSS running through the car with the T/O screaming. "WAHT THE FUCK'S HE DOING HE'S OFF THE BOARD?"
