This board is no more or less threat than any other chatboard. It's a public forum in which you can exchange information, viewpoints and so on.

As an employee, it is your obligation to treat confidential TA information as just that: confidential. You don't post what you are not permitted to post. It's that simple.

Members of the public can read and post here what they like, subject to whatever their employers don't want to reveal. For example, a Bombardier employee would not post here a list of other employeess' salaries or social security numbers. It's common sense.

If a member of the public sees something hapen on a train (doors opening on the wrong side or whatever), that person is free to post about it and discuss it on this board or any other (like newspaper-sponsored chat sites or neighborhood boards or the Strappies or whatever). You as an employee are not obligated to reply to posts, and may choose to skip threads where you consider the discussion not appropriate for you.

However, you have no legitimate expectation, nor should you ask, other people to refrain from posting things of interest to them. You operate in a public environment, not a closed-off building. If a rider discusses a mishap here, that's legitimate. If another TA employee discusses it and violates TA policy, then, if you know who it is, maybe you can find a way to deal with it through your supervision at work.

Simple as that. Follow Train Dude's example. Look at how and what he posts.

There was no safety violation.

I actually remember one time I was on the Market-Frankford line here in Philly, and the operator forgot to open the doors at all at 34th street. I got off at 30th and in that instance waited for the next train to go to 15th that time as I was a little spooked.

At least in this case, it was at an express stop this mistake happened, so people could still get out safely even if it was on the opposite platform.

I work in buses so I can't speak for the entire system. But in the depot I work in with 800+ personnel they are very few who love working for NYCT.
The majority are in it for the money and benefits. And if they could find a job that payed as equal as what they get at NYCT they would leave in a second.
I know, I have been working here for 12 years at its only getting worse. Imagine dealing with several hundred people like jps's weekly on both ends.
Its a draining and tiring job.

Actually, no it's not a non-sequiter at all. Your problem is that you assume, being a railbuff, that everyone else is too.

The VAST MAJORITY of those people want a job with job security and good benefits. They know that this is what the TA offers. Some in the crowd resemble you, of course. But not nearly as many as you think.

As to your other comment, I suggest you look at retention rate first, then come back and post. People who post here are far more likely to be malcontents or railbuffs whose views (like yours) don't represent most TA employees.

If someone is willing to rat out somebody else on this board for a violation on the train, then what is to stop that same person from ratting one of us out to the TA (by e-mailing links to certain posts) if he/she doesn't agree with our views?

And what would happen then? NOTHING.

I'm not sure why employees on this board feel a sense of entitlement, that whatever they do wrong should be covered up by the riding public. For the record, I would never report an employee unless he/she did something serious, but if someone else wants to, fine.

Well from what the Classes had to do after those "Twelwe" Persons from that "legendary" Class of Oct 29th did..

4 practicals(two yard and two road spread out over the training not at the end like ours was) instead of just a yard and a road like we did, you fail one its over..

If you are a promo you have to go back to your former title, if you are from Off The Street they ask for your tools on the spot, thats the difference from a person from Off The Street than a promo.

The "old" Signals Quiz is gone, they got a new one very "verbatum" with the meanings of the Signals, you get ONE wrong(100% no IF's AND's or BUT'S) same fate..

An extra two weeks of "enhancement training"(where the Line TSS's not the Schoolcar TSS's) show you the Lines more in depth.

Im sure they added a few more "wrinkles" to it as well..

Exactly, the people that keep saying "endangering the lives of passengers" are out of line. It's making a big deal out of nothing. Sure, it's a little dumb, but it's no biggie. it's not like he opened the doors on the wrong side, where there was no platform, like hovering over an elevated structure. All this minor thing was that the doors opened on a manhattan platform instead of a outbound platform....at an express center track. Big Whoop.

That's why the MTA should take every email seriously either. Anyone could say anything happened to them at a certain time on a certain train, totally fabricated, if someone just didn't like a conductor for some reason.
While this is a completely possible occurance, it's completely harmless, aside from a few passengers getting incovenienced. Big whoop, it was a mistake that was not dangering in any way.

Because, as mentioned by others, It was an honest mistake that didn't put anyone in danger. Humans are not perfect.

I remember back in `68 while patroling the A train. We had just left the hole at grant& went right thru hudson st[80st]w/o stopping.I,m thinkin`WTF? I talked to the m/m at lefferts&he was stunned that he had done it.He said I thought I didn`t stop.we had a good laff about it &that was that.I was with the same m/m talking to him at a redball when we encountered a rogue signal. It turned green for a second,he notched up& it turned red again,he did stop in time&told me that`s the first time in 15years he encountered that.

I remember that newspaper article a while back that mentioned "foamers" said that the MTA had people that routinely visited railfan websites.

I'd like a piece of that myself. But given that Jimmy Hoffa's probably back there and Al D'Amato ain't croaked yet, gonna be a while. :)
