R40M (Q) Train |
|
Posted by TheCanarsieConnection on Sun Feb 11 02:43:02 2007 Did anybody see the R40M (Q) Train this evening, it left Stillwell Ave about 10 mins to 11PM and it was in passenger service and all the signs said (Q). It was a pure 10 cars of R40M, no R42s mixed in. I had just missed it when I got up to the platform so I have no pictures unfortunately, but it is nice to see something other then the R68 on the (Q). |

The 3rd & 4th(or 5th & 6th, I'm not sure) cars from the north end have old rollsigns (with the curly-tail Q instead of the strikethrough). |

I can't really cause I missed my chance to get a pic of them. I saw one at 34th Street and one departing Queensboro Plaza when I went to the lower level platform. |

A pure set of R40M's is indeed a rare sight, no matter what line it's running on. I like solid consists. BTW, anyone know what's up with 4460/4665? I haven't seen it since last summer. |

The extension of service to Astoria would explain why there were a lot of R40's on the Q. BTW, did anyone see how that service was run? Did the Q's run express all the way to 57th and then run to Queens? I haven't ridden a train that did that in over 20 years. |

Oh yeah, that was a Q train with the orange Q in the front sign. And I actually saw quite a few trains with the orange Q. Thats what they should've put for that GO from a few weeks ago with the Q going to Queensbridge/21st Street. And the R40s I saw, they were all departing trains so I totally missed the chance cause I didn't pay attention in time. |

But service was pretty good. No complaints to it cause trains came pretty quick so I think the MTA did good on that part with trying to service running good and quick. |

I rode it last week on either Wednesday or thursday on a B train. I didn't even notice that I was on the "odd couple" until I was getting off, when I noticed that the storm door on the # 2 end of the car I was on was that of an R-40 while the storm door window on the # 2 end of its mate was clearly that of an R-42. Sure enough, when I got off, it was the mismated pair.subfan |
