No, but if you must know, I'm viewing from this thing here:
Inspiron 6000
But some do browse from mobile devices from time to time. And like the purpose of this thread, you introduced a phone that can surf the web. While the iPhone's screen can zoom in and out and fidget with the page, some phones cannot. This is why we make such a big deal of this. The same way that a large photo forks up the margins on a compy, the same way a hueg URL will fork up a small display. And those useless characters bring up ads anyways.

I've had this Powerbook G4 since then too, to replace a 12 inch one that I sold to a friend, and I've only had a few problems with applications crashing. Mainly the beta version of Yahoo Messenger and a few other pieces of free/beta software but that's to be expected. If you run questionable software on any computer running any operating system, problems are going to happen.

The Macs have been fine, certainly no worse than any Windows XP machine that I've used, and I can get a Unix terminal with one click, which really makes my day.

Why should we look at a long'assed url that we have to end up copying and pasting anyway?

You are the only one that does this. Everyone else uses such a thing as HTML codecs to post the link. It's much easier to point and click it rather than take a minimum of three steps (highlighting, copying and pasting) just to access the page.

On mobile devices, it is often easier to read the article from the text pasted into the SubChat post. That is why we are asking for you not to paste the whole URL, since that messes up the way the page is displayed for some people.

It's very simple. The URL is not needed. All that is needed is an HTML link. And you would makes things much better for people. There's no reason not to do it.

Thank you for that. However since I made my first post about this many moons threads ago, browser behavior has changed, it seems. I am running Firefox (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.9) Gecko/20061206 Firefox/1.5.0.9, according to its help string) and IE 7 (7.0.5730.11) and it’s now only the long URL that isn’t flowed. Other paragraphs are reflowed to fit the window width.

So, I can’t reproduce the really annoying behavior and it also means that Ron can paste as long text links into his posts as he likes without affecting us!

I wonder if some developers from Microsoft and the Firefox project were lurking here. If so, thanks for the fixes!

AT&T (formerly Cingular) will be the major carrier of this phone (because AT&T uses GSM/EDGE, while Verizon and Sprint share the CDMA network.)

The screen resolution is impressive, most phones have QVGA (320 X 240 pixels) screens. EDGE is very slow, compared to the new higher speed HSDPA network. It's a shame that Apple should have waited until HSDPA rolls out because now Verizon and Sprint are set to upgrade their networks to the newer EV-DO, Revision A standard. For those of you keeping score, Sprint/Verizon currently use EV-DO Revision 0, which is approx 700 kbps. download (up to 2 Mbps.) and 75 kbps. upload. Ev-DO Rev. A improves upload speeds to 700 kbps. while download speeds gets a very minor uptick to 800 kbps.

But as Apple rolls out the iphone, Verizon and Sprint are set to debut EV-DO Rev. A which will allow video calling, yes one can talk to another on a video screen. As if that is not enough for tech geeks, Sprint is in the process of upgrading their network to a new Wi-Fi standard, called Wi-Max, that will be essentially be the same as Wi-Fi for laptops, but more applicable to mobile phones.

I will admit that Apple has raised the bar in video/audio but they will have to play catch up with the new networks and upgrades.

Horizontal scrolling is much slower than vertical scrolling.

The most efficient way to read is when you don’t have to move and refocus your eyes. So you want to have a window set to a comfortable reading width, which for most people is less than a whole screen width (Palm/Treo/Portable PC users’ mileage will vary!).

Then you can read a screenful, press the space bar, read another screenful. Very quickly.

If the text scrolls off the right of the window, then you have to drag the horizontal scroll bar with a mouse. This wrecks speed reading.

You put your mouse cursor over the URL and the text it represents appears in the status bar at the bottom of the window.

If you want to copy the URL, you can do that as one of the choices with a right mouse click. IE uses the phrase “Copy Link Location”, FireFox uses the phrase “Copy Shortcut”.

A different suggestion, but it works!

It's weird that both my post and your post were posted at the exact same second!

Umm, you got the two reversed. Firefox uses "Copy link location." IE uses "Copy Shortcut."

The latest Firefox behaves differently: it reflows the other paragraphs, just not the one with the long text string.
