I had cops tellin me the same BS the day of the centenial.

Atleast they didn't arrest or ticket him and gave him his camera with the film. We've all heard of far worse situations. None the less, it is pretty outrageous that something like this should happen.

Hopefully that one cop though is against the photoban.

What was that Prince song.. sign "o" the times? This is the society we live in people unfortunately.

And you would also consider racial profiling, and police brutality the acceptable society we live in too? Sure I should be a cop too. But for the 1 percent of all NYC police officers who abuse their authority (the 99 percent I support), they should not have any job to begin with. Unless it is OK to shoot and kill an unarmed man 41 times and create a real Academy Award for acting to convince an upstate NY jury that the shooting was an accident. Or use a Police Issued nightstick to administer street justice inside a police station.

* - Again, my opinion is not directed at the majority of the 40,000 honest NYPD officers who give their lives to protect this great city, just only to the Justin Volpes and Sean Carolls.

I don't think the jury in Albany, NY was tainted or racist. I strongly belive that the cop's fake emotions got the best of them in their decision making process. After all, one of the other officers claimed he "got up" after falling off the steps and landing squarely on his back.

I think the issue comes down to "we're at war" here, as I've said many times before. Doesn't matter that the "high alert" was cancelled on election day (how ABOUT that stuff, eh?) but that in RE-electing President George W Bush, we can COUNT on this going completely out of control, just like Iraq. Bottom line, SELL the camera - FEAR won, and anybody with a camera *IS* a terrorist and nobody's going to stand up to this.

I'd suggested many times before that the ONLY way this issue was going to be won was "citizens on patrol with lenses" ... NOBODY LISTENED. Since rail photogs have NOT proven that they're FRIENDS of law enforcement rather than adversaries, then yer all gonna go down. :(

Sorry, I *did* advise ... NOBODY listened. :(

"Racial profiling," one word: "towelhead." :(

And as for the Albany county jury, yes, THAT is "America." I almost SAT on that jury, I was up that week. I would have HUNG the jury if that was any satisfaction, but Albany is a VERY "conservative" place - mostly DEMOCRATS. Spit on a sidewalk up here and you do 90 days. :(

"America" has wet bedsheets, and they VOTED for the pack of Depends. It's ALL over. Anyone who has repression in mind WINS. We gave up our freedom WILLINGLY though curiously, no more towelheads to worry about NOW that we have our "leader." :(

MTA is going to VOTE on the ban, and in the affirmative. NOBODY has provided a salient point NOT to. :( :(

Welcome to the New World Order, America VOTED FOR IT. And SO it shall be.

No, up here, the police are underpaid GODS ... and the smallest, pettiest crime is NEWS. While "police brutality" is an issue in the city, it isn't so much up here - and it isn't like there's people who care, and have proven that it happens among our own - we don't have many liberal republicans around here - we have old fashioned "conservative democrats" who rule this town - 1930's relics all ... "they MUST have done something to DESERVE what they got, because cops are our neighbor next door." "And God would NEVER punish the innocent, so that guy DESERVED it." Such is the mentality once you get 100 miles out of the city. :(

And OUR yahoos are what was appointed to YOUR MTA ... "if photography is a terrorist threat, then we MUST stop it." Word. :(

Don't shoot the messenger, I've been through a few "war times" before and this whole situation is just another in the endless "stream" of diaper-wetting ... but in the end, with all this political posturing that has us afraid of our brother and sister muslims, well ... if being a "towelhead" is scary, then those "terrorists with lenses" must be a full diaper. :(

Fast is, the ONLY way to defeat the "gestapo" is to prove TO the "gestapo" that having cameras in the subway makes their job EASIER, rather than more difficult ... I'd SUGGESTED that perhaps shutterbugs might emulate Curtis SLIWA and do a "glass angels" or similar "media campaign" to indicate that "many eyes who can RECORD" are better than NONE. But NO. nobody listened.

This thing is *SO* gonna happen. :(

Heh. Cops seem to have this uncanny ability to come out second-best whenever push (literally) comes to shove. You always seem to read these stories in which some street thug violently resists arrest and three or four cops end up going off duty with injuries. I think you have to take a physical unfitness test to become a cop today :)
