I meant some of their products are overrated. I think Budd was a great railcar manufacturer. They probably would've done a better job with the R44s than St Louis Car Co. If only they won the bid on the R62s, they would have survived the 1980s. :) |

They just feel like they're slow because they ride smooth, but not as smooth as the new tech trains. Sometimes it can be slow because of the TO. |

Their status as lemons has survived up to the present, even through GOH. 25 years ago, it was the R46 receiving all the bad pub. They're the first 75' cars, the first to not have railfan windows. Personally, these are why I like the R44's, but I'm in the extreme minority. |

As a former motorman, sure would have liked to pull handle on them and check them out. FWIH, they were swift, but had braking issues. Overshooting stations was a constant problem, forcing motormen (no chicks ever operated these babies) to operate them very carefully. |

That's what I'd heard ... really wish I'd gotten a chance to see for myself. I did get to operate a pair of gatecar/Q cars in schoolcar, but it was less than a half hour of cab time there. HATED them with their whacky reversed stands, and the need to keep your thumb on the elevator controller or dump. |

There's a story in Greller's BMT book about one northbound consist near the end of their lifespans overshooting Myrtle/Broadway so severely that the entire train cleared the interlocking before stopping. This may be why these cars were scrapped before the D types, despite being 7-8 years younger. |

Good man.Now..do you mean CURRENT subway car...or ANY car from history? I don't dislike any of them..though I do have my favorites.. Well..thats not quite true...I don't really care much for the R68/68A cars. I do,on the other hand,"Like" the R42's since I remember the fondly from the early days..they were VERY NICE when new. I also like the 46's..they are among my favorites. But..I don't care much for the "hippos"..can do without them. |
