How long is the drive from Clifton Forge? Also, is there any bus from there to the college. How about a nearby car rental agency? |

Oh, must've been thinkign Rocky Mount I guess. I'm disappointed that after they shrunk one of the routes back to savannah(why there?) the railsales in Florida isn't what they used to be. But right now they got one from Orlando to Houston. 32 bucks, 32 hours, 1 dollar an hour. Dang work, I'll never have enough time to take advantage of it.17 bucks to new orleans.......arrrggghh! Janurary's too cold anyway. I like looking this stuff up though...I'll see what I can dig up when I get the chance tomorrow, I remember doing some search on roanke a few months ago. |

Every city has almost as many Enterprise places as they do wal-greens, you just need to figure out where it is...unless they pick you up.Amtrak had Hertz too, if you can find a station. |

It's sad that there's no amtrak service to Roanoke. I was there last summer. If you go be sure to visit the O. Winston Link Museum. It's located in the old N&W station thet has been restored. The museum is great. You could easily spend a whole day there. It's too bad this collection didn't wind up in Brooklyn since Link was a Brooklyn boy.The station itself is worth some time. It has a little alcove where you can sit and watch the tracks. There is pretty regular freight service through Roanoke. The station was remodeled in the late 1940's to a design by Raymond Lowey, the same guy who designed the GG1 (among many other things). If that isn't enough, across the tracks is the Virginia museum of transportation. It's got a great collection of trains as well as a nice little layout. |
