Being cynical, I would have several officers right there telling them that if that make a ruckus they get fined, and fine them if they do. It'll be a nice day to make some money off fines, because for those that are trying to enjoy a nice ride home, something like that would annoy me. Damn me at the fact I cannot run the transit system. |

Lol @ Will. But really, if these party people are like the ones that caused mayhem and destruction on the last Q Diamond train on 2/21/04 then the this part's over and they need to get a life. The train crew has an obligation to safely transport their customers (some of them happen to be party guests.). |

The party was abruptly over at Dekalb just about 30 minutes ago.Interior of car #2836 was trashed beyond any recognition, a traffic cone hangs over the side of one horizontal bars, confetti all over the car and some party tape was wrapped around three poles like a spider web. Totally uncalled for. I have a few camera phone pics of the aftermath. |

I dunno if it's the same group, but I'd guess so.The one in 2004 was a "Farewell to the Q Diamond" party. They boarded the last Diamond Q run at Union Square southbound and rode it to Brighton Beach. We had got on at Brighton Beach northbound, and rode it back down. We didn't even know what it was at first...we just saw an enormous sea of people at the rear of the station at Union Square, and realized they had got on since we sat there for a little while. |

The last known party, caused vandalism as well as grief for the train crew at Brighton Beach trying to fumigate the train. It took them ten minutes before an officer finally showed up to convince the last partygoers to leave the Q diamond.I really don't care if they threw a party on the whole train. However, given their prior record of vandalism and refusal to leave the train when asked by NYCT personnel, I strongly felt the need to inform the police. What if something happened at Church Ave when the customers were trying to exit from the first car and a shoving match happens, leading to something more serious? What if one of the party people acted irrational and accidently kicked one of the windows out? The safety of crew and customers always come first before assholes who want to trash a subway car, create a serious hazard which may require taking the train OOS, and possibly in the rare occurrence that a stabbing or shooting inside a crowded car might happen. Think about that |

You're 100% right.Socializing on the train is good, but if it is a group of people who get together, encourage each other to act irresponsibly and cause damage and a threat to safety, then evicting them and applying sanctions are required. |

The officers were upstairs, but remained alert for the Q that was approaching. Once doors opened, they came downstairs in 5 seconds.Even as the train was held by the officers, the music can be heard upstairs. I'd like to take note that based on Larry's pictures of the final Culver shuttle run, the people were much more respectable than this bunch. They dressed up, played music and had a blast. That was a party, even though many hated to see the Culver go. |

Subway party... We'll begin by gathering our bodies, momentum and inebriation within the spiral at the northern edge of Union Square (in front of Barnes and Noble) and parade due south -- arranged by color -- and descend into the earth at the subway stop at the bottom tip of Union Square. We'll make some lovely music in the underground acoustic chamber and then board the front car of the Q train and ride express direct to Brighton Beach where everyone is invited to slip off their sweatpants and into the ocean. Bring instruments, drums, noisemakers, kazoos, friends, bathing suits, body paint, fine wine, cheap booze, unmarked beverage containers, and, of course, your single color spandex elastic fantastic outfit. Union Square North 17th Street and Broadway, Manhattan 10:13p gather, 10:38p on to the subway; $free I wonder if the Jews for Jesus people were at Brighton Beach.... |
