Fastest Runs in the Subway |

Posted by Subway Camper on Sun Apr 30 01:07:10 2006 I am going to NY next weekend, and I hope to do some railfanning. I would like to go FAST. That is all I care about. The other thread about the slowness of the subway (which is overexaggerated; I don't think its that slow) compelled me to ask this question.Give a Top 5 or Top 10 or whatever, with No. 1 being the fastest. |

First off......*slaps everyone else five for teh funnay jokes* :)I'll give you what's personally fastest to me for next weekend when you come up here: 1. E between Queens Plaza and 71 Av-Forest Hills Note: Queens-bound F trains will be running along the V next weekend from 47-50 sts to Roosevelt Av, so an R32 F train heading to Queens would be good too 2. N train (preferably get an R40M or Slant or R32) between Queensboro Plaza and Lexington Av. 3. A train (Again, see if you can get an A that's not an R44) to Far Rockaway, (The Fulton St express run is not too shabby either, but the A is all local next weekend) 4. The 4 G.O. having Bronx-bound 4 trains run express from 167 St to Woodlawn (Believe it or not, this "Jerome Express" can go pretty fast IMO, mostly between 167 and Burnside) Extra: It seems that on top of the G.O.'s the 1 already has, another G.O. has the Uptown/Bronx-bound 1 going from 96 St to 145 St, bypassing 103, 110, 116, 125, 137 sts. I know that R62/R62a's can go pretty fast, but anything can happen, you could still check that out though: Uptown trains skip 103, 110, 116, 125, and 137 Sts Weekend, 6 AM to midnight Sat, 5 AM to 9 PM Sun, May 6 - 7 & 13 - 14 |

You can get it here and there perhaps.I can say that 1 line G.O while you are going on M track from 96 to 145th Street you get a good run up to just south of 137 Street if im correct. |

For a fast subway ride, go to Philly and ride SEPTA's Broad Street Subway express train or Ridge Spur train under Broad Street. Stand in the front and watch the speedometer hit 63+ mph.

The average distance between stations on both the MFL and BSS is between 4 and 5 blocks. Trains normally run at 45mph in many 4-5 block stretches.1 block = 1/10 mile |

Hey Camper,if you want speed,FORGET the subways.Take the LIRR and take the Express run from either Jamaica Station to Hicksville either way. OR the Jamaica Station to Babylon express run,either way. Both runs hae speeds of 80MPH AND the Babylon run has it mostly on a structure between Copaigue and Lindenhurst that is pretty good,IMO. |

Well the train bounces around a lot, and sometimes the engineers approach red signal frighteningly fast, knowing they will clear. But the other half of the fun I guess is the great railfan window. |
