Valley Stream only has one condo near the train station. The rest of the residences in the area are mostly single family homes. By Gibson, there's an apartment building, but again, mostly single family homes. Lynbrook, I'll give you some credit for, since there's a whole cluster along Penninsula Avenue*. I've seen two new condos go up in Westbury along with the living assisted building next to the tracks. That's in addition to a few other buildings along Maple Avenue.IIRC, I don't remember any apartments near the Garden City station... As for the others, I'm not too familiar with them, but still, one should admit that from your list, it's a small number than have some sort of apartment complex near by. When I was on the Harlem Line a few days ago, it seemed that a majority of the stations had some type of apartment/condo complex of a reasonable size near the station. It's also interesting to note that of your examples listed above, all but three (Great Neck, Westbury, Mineola) are located in the Town of Hempstead. I guess I need to actually bother doing a railfan trip on the LIRR soon. :) La Grande Anse |

The third track on the mainline is in direct response to wanting reverse peak traffic. The president even mentioned that the only reason they don't do more is because the current two tracks on the mainline are needed for the current peak direction traffic. It's unfair to compare the LIRR to Metro North and NJT, as they do not handle the volume that the LIRR handles, especially on the mainline, where the Oyster Bay, Port Jeff, Ronkonkoma, Hempstead, and some Ronkonkoma trains all have to share the same ROW and many of them the same tracks, all while sending half hourly or better service in peak direction all at the same time.I actually did say "admittedly because they're restricted by track capacities" in regards to the LIRR"s issues in having reverse peak travel. The only way the LIRR can have an effective reverse peak is with a third track, which is going to be remedied within the next decade or so. Perhaps, or perhaps not, but again, that has nothing to do with what the LIRR can or can't do. The only thing the LIRR is responsible for is providing rail service. Zoning and the location of other transportation facilities is the responsibility of some other level of government. |

You've written some sort of program and searches this site for posts by Lincoln or myself with the word "M7" in them and then automatically responds with the same vapid post.If you don't have anything worthwhile to say why even bother wasting a post? Come up with a specific reason why I don't know what I'm talking about or don't even bother. In this case you could actually try to find somewhere in this thread or the past other five M7 related threads where somebody against the new EMUs actually brought up the loss of the RFW as a black mark against the car. |
