This photo reminds me of something.Did the MTA ever think of leasing the air space over Corona Yard to build a high rise? I'm guess they did and there is something wrong with the land. I think X-Astorian guessed the location right. I wonder if he's a real Astorian or fake, like Rockparkman? |

Took that picture from the east end of the upper level of QBP on 9/11 after attending the Ground Zero ceremonies , heading to family gathering at Donovans in Woodside. With all that construction going on, Its beginning to look like Chicago with an elevated train line running thru urban developed offices and skyrises. |

Heres another picture taken of the BMT train I just got off of that day from Cortland St.. I believe it was a W with an R46 consist. It was a noisy and rough ride flying thru the 60 th st Tunnel. I suspect this set of R46s are soon to be off to the torch.![]() |

I like that Chicago elevated experience so I wouldn't mind having a dose of it around the NYC area if it's forever gone in Manhattan. Icing on top if a good RFW ever shows up again. |

I remember when they were building the 1964 World's Fair, the towers of the New York State Pavilion were the tallest structures, capped at about 200-250 feet, because the fairground was right under the LAG landing path. In 1939, the Trylon was something like 600 feet high. |

What do you miss about Astoria (besides the Astoria Line)?Mostly family and friends who are no longer with us - that's why I haven't been there since 2009 - no one to see. Oh yeah, and the great bakeries that I remember (of different ethnicities and specialties) - almost all of which are gone too. Such is life and now I want a piece of cake, a cupcake or a cannoli |

OMG, the amount of development in that area is astonishing. The last time I was there was in 1996, when I toured the Flushing and Astoria lines one last time before I fled for the wilds of Connecticut. Can't wait to go back and tour the system again. |

Its my first trip to the QP area in years. I too was astounded by the amount of the development going on. And its only the beginning if Trump gets the air rights over Sunnyside Yds. and builds some form of huge complex. Maybe thats why Trump is so chummy with Mamdani, possibly looking for necessary approval(s) as in zoning variants and various other permits? |
