Punchbox Question |

Posted by Q65A on Tue Jun 9 09:39:54 2026 I was on the Culver Line this past Saturday from Kings Hwy. to Stillwell. I saw punchboxes installed on the SB platforms at Kings Hwy. and Ave. X.Culver now is a CBTC line, so are the punchboxes now used only by work trains? |

The installation of CBTC has nothing to do with the installation of punchboxes. Tower operators in the various master towers still need to be able to identify trains unless the activation of the punchbox is set up to give the lineup in accordance with the route that is selected. |

Isn't one of the points of CBTC that they finally will know where the trains are?Sometimes trains IDs drop out then a Line Up cannot be given, so there's someone in the Tower (or at OCC) who properly IDs the train. Then the Line Up is given. |
