Both sides have agreed to a 9.5% hike to retroactively cover the last 3 years but can't agree on the amount of future raises. The union wants 4.5-5% and the MTA wants 3-3.5%.

A strike should be strategic. I think!?

If they are going to strike, strike strategically.

During a holiday weekend. Or just strike during the middle of the work week.

Meanwhile, a sinkhole opened up on the LIE. I don't know if it has been fixed but that adds to the chaos for Long Islanders driving in during the strike.

Union wants 5 percent the MTA offered 3 that alone is insulting..

BTW TWUs contract is also expired…

Yet trains and buses are running and they will continue to run..

We will get our deal done and then LIRR will get their deal I believe..

The LIE sinkhole was filled in and traffic has returned to normal. It is believed that contractors work nearby caused the sinkhole that involved a sewer line.

This was the first moment the unions were legally allowed to strike. Any attempt to wait for a more strategic time would almost definitely lead to a company lockout, so nothing to be gained there.

'A strike was postponed twice after the unions requested the intervention of two federally appointed review panels. The panels, appointed by President Trump, said the unions should be paid more than what the MTA is offering, but their suggestions aren't binding.'

Seems to me the MTA is playing Chutes and Ladders, and they're not winning. Cuomo at least knew how to take the L and claim the W.

If TWU agrees on a deal before the LIRR does..

The MTA Wins...
