Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Wed Apr 1 11:52:11 2026 Happy April Fools Day Tuscarora Almanac for April 1 1907 – from The Book of First Runs The 207th Street Station on the IRT Broadway Line opens. The Broadway Line had been completed as far as 221st Street (temporary station) in 1906 but 207th Street Station did not open until the completion of the University Heights Bridge. 1913 – from The Book of First Runs The Philadelphia and West Chester Traction Company begins trolley service between 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby and Media, Pennsylvania. Today this service continues as the Media Rail Line of SEPTA. 1965 – from The Book of Car Assignments Jersey City, New Jersey Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation On or about this date PRR Class MP-51 1210 is converted from a single ended to a double ended car. Former H&M Class K cars 1230-1231 are equipped with cab signals. Prior to this only the PRR Class-51 had them. Six of the old “black” cars are repainted and refurbished. The car nos. are : 501,439, 516, 438, 472 and 407. Source: ERA New York Division Bulletin / April 1965 1976 – from The Book of First Runs The Consolidated Rail Corporation takes over six northeastern railroads; Penn Central, Erie-Lackawanna, Jersey Central, Lehigh Valley, Lehigh & Hudson River and Reading. Conrail was a major freight carrier but also the biggest operator of passenger trains in the country until 1983. 1980 – from The Book of First Runs On or about this date three Toronto LRV are tested on Boston’s Riverside light rail line. Car nos. are 4027, 4029 and 4031. Source: Boston Trolleys by Mr. William D Volkmer. 1990 – from The Book of First Runs On or about this date IRT Lo-V Motor 5600 is transferred to the Trolley Museum of New York in Kingston. She is still there awaiting restoration. 1990 – from The Book of First Runs n or about this date ACF R-7 1440 is transferred to the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine. She joins R-4 800.
