Anyone Ever See the "Subway" episode of Homicide--Life on the Streets? |
|
|
Posted by heypaul on Sun Mar 29 20:08:07 2026 It was an episode of Homicide from 1997. A Baltimore subway customer, played by Vincent D'Onofrio gets pushed on the platform and ends up pinned between the platform and the subway car. Detective Frank Pendleton, played by Andre Braugher, connects with the doomed man. |

BTW in a movie from that era the bad guy was being chased and ran down into a WMATA station as filmed from behind, but the shot from the station showing him coming down is in Baltimore. |

Yes, it was a great episode, one of many.I remember watching it almost 30 years ago, and was quite happy to see the entire series available now on Tubi tv. It was a troubling episode, where a guy was pinned between the platform and the train, which was actually keeping him alive. Because once the pressure was removed he was a dead man. On a side note, it's good thing that Pelham 123's trainmaster Frank Correll wasn't working during the over 30 minute service disruption on his trains. He would have fumed that they should remove this guy from scene. Just because he paid $1.35 is no guarantee he will live forever. |

That episode was the subject of a making-of documentary with the clever title "Anatomy of a 'Homicide: Life on the Street'". It appeared on PBS. Not sure where one would find it today. |

The episode reminds me of part of the final episode of China Beach, where a mortally wounded Tank driver was only alive because of the pneumatic pants he was wearing. Once the pressure in the pants or the pants themselves were removed, he was going to die. |
