What OBS describes is NOT the subway I regularly use at many hours of the day. Whether going out to music, meals w/friends or medical needs, I rarely encounter annoying issues. It is, however, the case that "rush hour" no longer means crush loading--merely a few standees. So, unlike many transit systems, BART used to rake in 60%+ farebox recovery--mainly due to distance based fares New Yorkers would not to0lerate on the subway. SF Muni and the rest of our 27 transit agencies farebox ## range from 10 to 20%. Now that BART, as many other systems, is booking more evening and weekend ridership than before covid, but lower 9-5 users, their money ## are very different. Finally, I would point out that Illinois passed a huge bailout for ALL transit in the state as they, too, have very different rider needs than pre covid. |

As likely other communities. Even before COVID, fewer people were working the traditional 9-5 workday and that only accelerated with COVID. With the global economy, people are often needed to work non-traditional hours to cater in many cases to people outside the US for many things. |
