[PHOTO] West 46th St & Broadway 1944

Posted by Bill Newkirk on Sat Mar 14 08:23:51 2026

What an amazing photograph. Amazing since it was most likely photographed using Kodak Kodachrome film.
By judging the theater marquees, I placed this photo at December 1944 judging as their the release dates.

Were streetcars still running along Broadway by then? I know the last ones in Manhattan came off in 1946.

I suspect given all the water on the ground and some ice this was right after a big snowstorm and fast warm-up.

It's a shame, and surprising, that there are none in view because the bBoadway line lasted until December 15, 1946. Many other TARS Manhattan routes ran into 1947.

Something's going on at the hosting site.

I'll check tomorrow and see if it's cleared up.

I think more of a rain storm than a snow storm.

Send some of that precip our way. We desperately need the moisture in Denver.
