Stations are opened at Dyckman Street, 215th Street and 221st Street. The temporary station at 221st will remain in service until January 14, 1907 when the line is extended to 225th Street. The stations at 168th Street and 181st Street will open on May 30, 1906. The station at 191st Street will open on January 14, 1911. The station at 207th Street will open on April 1, 1907. 1953 – from The Book of First Runs Super Express service during the AM rush begins on the Flushing Line. Service during the PM rush will begin on September 8. Super Expresses run non-stop between Willets Point Boulevard and Queensboro Plaza in addition to the regular express trains. Tuscarora Dispatch No. 25 Rollsign Readings for the R-32 A, R-32 and R-38 Car Classes These are the original rollsign readings for the R-32 A (3350-3649), R-32 (3650-3949) and R-38 (3950-4149) car classes as they were delivered. A reading for the “”DD” returned to subway cars for the first time since the R-9 order of 1940. This may have been due to the fact that the “DD” was activated for a brief time in December 1962. Also for the first time since 1940 the “HH” reappears. This time the reading is not “Fulton Street Local” but Rockaway Local. The Rockaway Shuttles were designated “HH” on February 1, 1962. The reading for the BMT Southern Division route eliminated the BMT route names, i.e. Brighton, Sea Beach etc. This caused so much confusion that the TA had to post large metal signs informing passengers which line was which. Note that no provision was made for the new routes even though Chrystie Street was on the horizon. This information comes from the February 1968 issue of the ERA New York Division Bulletin. Super Express service ... in addition to the regular express trains. When the Identra system was working correctly on the Queens-bound Flushing line during the PM rush (meaning that a working loop was installed and the operator had set it correctly), as a train entered the stations from 5 Av to Queensboro Plaza, the system would trigger two back-lit sign lights to turn on along the platform which would display either "Local", "Express", or "Super Express", so waiting passengers could identify the type of train before it pulled into the station. The bottom half of a typical unlit Identra sign is visible above the first car here, and it's hard to tell if the car has a loop installed:  R14 with Idenrta loop:  R36 with Identra loop:  Identra was not unique to NYC. SEPTA with Identra loop:  As the R36s aged, many of the loops were broken or missing, so the signs didn't light up, and when a train left QBP, the switch would not automatically set, so the train had to stop at the switch and the operator had to manually punch for the route, either local or express. Later, a second punch was installed at QBP, so the operator could punch during the station stop. When the R62s started appearing on the #7, there was no provision for a loop, and instead the front bullets were used: R62:  Identra use during the AM rush was before my time and I don't know how or if it was used similarly. |

We've all heard about the "Super Express" on the 7 line.Apparently the ridership was a lot of businessmen. I guess it was Queens version of the "Bankers' Specials" in Brooklyn, catering to a very specific demographic, who wanted a fast ride into Manhattan. Passengers would transfer from the LIRR at Willets Point to the 7. Wives would drop their hubbies off at Willets Point for the commute to "the city". The concept of the "Super Express" and it's history is interesting. |

Up until fairly recently I thought the train was just the Worlds Fair Super Express, and didn't realize it had started much earlier than that. I remember my first trip to the WF at QBP and the sign lit up Express and we took it. I didn't realize at the time it wasn't the special Super Express they were advertising. After that there were many trips out to Shea to see the Mets, the Jets and this one band I saw there. |

I read somewhere that a bunch of tickets were locked inside a cabinet and the one person who had the key either went on vacation or some other reason, which was why there were so many empty seats. IINM the attendance was ~44,000. One of the home shpping channels offered some surviving unsold tickets to that concert a few years back. |

Sales were also down at Candlestick, their last show until they performed on the roof. If there were tickets locked away it was probably because they didn't sell them in the first place. At the time they were the only group that could sell anywhere near the numbers they did even if they were less than the prior year. |
