Man hit and killed by F train in Rego Park

I can't believe you know who didn't thread about this.

Anyway, years ago a motorman told me that Rego Park express tracks were a hot spot for suicides. The victims know that they want to die and an express train on a downgrade (going Manhattan-bound) will not be able to stop.

He had one right there around 1983.

I see nothing in the linked article that would cause me to believe that this was a suicide. If he jumped from the platform it front of the F train, that would be quite the olympian jump.

F does not stop at 63/Rego Park. M and R do.

It has two local platforms which means he went to the roadbed, walked over the local track onto his express to get hit by the F.

I was near Queens Mall and needed to get home. Had to walk to Jackson Heights against a sea of people walking from Jackson Heights. Can't believe how long it was down. Must have been a mess with it happening on the express track. Condolences to the operator for being an unwelcomed participant in this.

I'm quite familiar with the 63/rego pk station configuration. What i don't understand is the presumption that this was a suicide

I attended dozens of 12-9s during my time at NYCT. This delay time seems excessive. Either retrieving the body was problematic or there was a question of circumstances that necessitated a longer investigation than usual.

I dont get that. If you want to do yourself in, why bother going to the express track? Just wait for the local (which enters the station at just about express speed) take the dive at the east end of the platform and thats that.

Could have been a person not paying attention..

63rd Drive don’t have mezzanines maybe that person wanted to cross the tracks instead of just going one or two stops to cross over..

These things happen…

A co-worker discussion Wednesday said an unhoused male on an R train was standing between cars and urinating when they slipped and fell to the roadbed. Part of the body was on the express track under another train.

Took 25 years, but my 1720 E to 179 was rerouted to 168-Broadway. The dispatcher @ 168 was very nice. Cleared at 2154.

NYPD did a second investigation during the overnight hours Wednesday morning - supposedly there was more 'evidence' (remains) to be collected.

I clearly meant no disrespect to the 12-9er, the crew, and the responders.

It's true, as Train Dude also said, people cross the tracks instead of taking the stairs. Especially people who don't pay the fare at the 10 car marker (Manhattan-bound) by opening the gate.

I estimate that 250 people daily don't pay their fare just at that entrance. Within that population will be people stupid enough to cross the tracks.

There’s a reason why they say “stay inside the cars while the train is moving”..

ATO and human bodies make a bad mix…

Train ground him up so much parts of him wound up on the express tracks…

According to another TO here the person was between cars taking a leak..

btw- the second investigation would be a little easier to do because local Manhattan-bound trains were all running express anyway.
