Looking for this?Gothamist is kinda prevaricating by claiming that Metro-North was going to be cheaper; no fares were ever announced that I can recall. |

If not Amyrak , I would see homeowners in Northern Duchess County like zRhineback pitching about the new MTS taxes they would be attached to their already high taxes |

If not, that could happen if necessary. Years ago when there was NJT trains going from New Haven to the Meadowlands, Metro North crews had to get qualified on the NE corridor south of New Rochelle which included Sunnyside. Not a huge deal. But as it stands now, the point is moot. |

Jim: Amtrak said it was going to cut service on the Empire Line due to one of the East River tubes being closed. As soon as Metro-North offered to fill the gap Amtrak suddenly discovered another train. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Long past time for NYS to take over all passenger operations between NYC and Albany at a minimum. Amtrak changes engines and operating crew at Albany for 48, 49, IINM. |

Start with the idea that Amtrak loses money on its NYP-Albany trains. If Amtrak were to hand over the service to Metro North, that's red ink off their books (and on to Metro North's). Since it seems that MN gets all its $$$ from Albany, it would be a win win situation for NYP (actually GCT)-Albany travelers that improved Metro North service would provide.. An since Hochul is up for re election, she wouldn't want to piss off any Hudson Valley voters.BTW the Idea of MN taking over Albany service has been kicked around for years...and went nowhere. |

Even going as far as Beacon (which I did for about 25 years) those seats got uncomfortable. Whats the term, square ass?? Maybe MN can buy/lease some of Amtrak's soon to be put out to pasture Amfleets for the service? I'm sure they could find a dozen or so of them in good shape to cover the schedule. |
