Tuscarora Almanac for January 14 and Transit Trivia

1907 – from The Book of First Runs

The IRT Broadway Line is extended from 221st Street to 225th Street. The temporary station at 221st Street is closed and a new one opened at 225th Street.

1911 – from The Book of First Runs

The 191st Street station of the IRT #1 subway line opens for passenger service. It has been long considered as the deepest station ever built on the entire NYC subway system, located 180 feet below street level.

1965 – from The Book of Last Runs

This is the last day for the D-Types on the Brighton Express (BMT Rt. 1 /Q).

1966 – from The Book of Wrecks

A non-revenue train of Q-Types lead by 1619C struck the former Staten Island Railway trailer car 2925 (x 504) in the Fresh Pond Yard. The impact was strong enough to push the SIRT car through the block and down into the open cut of Long Island Railroad's Montauk Branch.

Transit Trivia No. 7

Private Tunnel at 37th Street

There is a private tunnel passing under Broadway between 1375 Broadway and 1384 Broadway. This tunnel passes over the subway tracks. The buildings are located between West 37th Street and West 38th Streets.

Does anyone know if this tunnel is still in use?

I think someone posted photos of the collision at Fresh Pond Yard.

It sounds like a page one story for The Ridgewood Times.

The picture showing 6045c is displaying the set that was created after an accident in 1955. 6045c is really 6078c since 6078ab and the original 6045c were wrecked and scrapped.

The infamous collision at Stillwell Ave on June 19, 1955. It became the subject of a movie, When Triplexes Collide. It was a cataclysmic collision.
