Posted by Steve B-8AVEXP on Mon Nov 17 18:22:24 2025, in response to Tuscarora Almanac for November 17, posted by irtredbirdr33 on Mon Nov 17 17:15:23 2025. 2006 - From the Book of First RunsDenver's Southeast Corridor, a 19.5-mile expansion of RTD's light rail system, opened. It branches off the original line at I-25/Broadway (they could easily rename it Broadway Junction, if they wanted to) and runs alongside I-25 for 15 miles, to Lincoln Ave. in Lone Tree, with a 4.5-mile spur running in the middle of I-225 to Parker Road and the Nine Mile Park'n'Ride. Four new routes made their debut: E line from Lincoln Ave. to Union Station F line from Lincoln Ave. to 18th St. G line from Lincoln Ave. to Nine Mile H line from Nine Mile to 18th St. A J line, from Nine Mile to Union Station, was on the drawing boards, but that service pattern was never implemented. The original G line was discontinued in 2009 because of low ridership. (It was reincarnated as the R line when that route opened in 2017.) The F line was suspended, along with the C line, in 2020 during the pandemic. Neither pattern has been reinstated yet. Ridership has not fully recovered. Pre-pandemic, I would see very few cars at Elati Yard when driving down Santa Fe Drive during the afternoon peak period. Now, the yard is full of them. Two-car trains are the norm; once in a while I'll see a three-car train. The only time they run four-car trains is to Bronco games on the E line. |
