I really like CYVR but I never knew of the SkyTrain. On business layovers we stay at the Marriott Pinnacle Downtown which is just north and west by maybe a couple three blocks of the northernmost and westernmost SkyTrain stations. I typically walk along the harbour and in Stanley Park and never walk(ed) south or east.In the event you find yourself in CYVR go to Cardero's for dinner. It is literally "in" the marina on Vancouver Harbour and you will not be disappointed. |

Speedy little buggers. 2. Many miles between stations. 3. ZPTO. So how does the train stop if someone falls onto the tracks? Or a tree falls? 4. Is the third rail that flat one in between the running rails? It’s uncovered. If someone falls onto it, are they dead? |

Many miles between stations.Looking at a map, the two longest lines, to Surrey and to Coquitlam, seem to generally have about 1 station per mile. |

So how does the train stop if someone falls onto the tracks? Or a tree falls? My guess is the grills between the rail in the station and the rail between the running rails are mounted on pressure sensors that detect weight differences. 4. Is the third rail that flat one in between the running rails? It’s uncovered. If someone falls onto it, are they dead? No. The cars do not have traction motors. The propulsion system used is linear induction. The flat rail between the running rails are induction coils, the stater coils are on the bottoms of the trucks. The coils in a conventional traction are laid out flat. The third rail is under a cover board like conventional third rail. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

Long ago, I rode the original Skytrain equipment. The cars are slightly more than 8 feet wide. No match for New York Division B cars for a train's capacity. Nevertheless, the frequency of service helps. |

I didn't notice any guard rails on curved sections. Any idea why ?Also, weren't the older SkyTrain cars sold to Detoit so they could replace their original ZPTO cars ? Bill M. |

I'm pretty sure Detroit took in some of Toronto's 3 line (Scarborough RT) cars, which uses technology similar to SkyTrain Vancouver, but according to Wikipedia still had an operator while in Toronto due to public opposition. |
