PHOTOS: NEW BRUNSWICK |

Posted by Jersey Mike on Thu Jun 26 16:49:36 2025 When it comes to the Northeast Corridor in New Jersey, I am more likely to be riding on it than standing by it. In early May 2024 a friend staying in downtown New Brunswick suggested I pop by for some food and to hang out on the NJT platform during the Friday rush. As this would allow me to get some needed signal photos I agreed and headed up from Bordentown to avoid the parking fees at Hamilton Although I was only trackside for about an hour or two, I was treated to quite the show ( mirror ) with both NJT locals and non-stop Amtrak trains at 125mph appearing in quick succession.Step one was to park (for free) at Bordentown and catch a RiverLINE DMU to Trenton. The schedule typically involves a pass south of the station so southbound DMU #3516 showed up before my northbound with #3520. ![]() ![]() My train to New Brunswick had ALP-46 #4624 cab ML cab car #7012. ![]() ![]() The next train to stop at the station was the Amtrak pull-push Regional Train #129 with ACS-86 #618 on the head end and class locomotive #600 on the rear. ![]() ![]() This was followed by a northbound Regional with ACS-86 #603 on track #2 and an outbound single level NJT NEC express train on track #3 with Comet V #6005 on the rear, which you can see hitting the brakes in the video clip as it pass an Approach Medium signal indication on the Milepost 31 automatic. ![]() ![]() Next up an NJT push-pull with cab car #7006 leading and ALP-46 #4646 pushing, was overtaken by a northbound Acela with power car #2016 on track #2. ![]() ![]() An Approach Slow on the #4 milepost 31.5 intermediate signaled it was time for some Jersey Ave Arrow III's, which were in turn overtaken by a southbound Acela with power cars #2028 and #2007. ![]() ![]() Just after the Arrows departed, a northbound Keystone train with Metroliner Cab Car #9640 leading pulled in for a stop. The Keystone was powered by ACS-86 #624 and departed just as another set of Arrows pulled in. ![]() ![]() ![]() As this set of Arrows sat in the station it was passed by a northbound Regional on track #2 with ACS-86 #630 and then overtaken by a southbound keystone with Metroliner #9651 and ACS-86 #668 on track #3. ![]() ![]() ![]() At this point it was time to go find a pizza place so on the walk I got this photo of the brick PRR station. ![]() ![]() After dinner it was time to head back to Trenton and somehow my original outbound NJT trainset with #4624 and #7012 showed up, but because it was terminating service at Jersey Ave I had to wait for the next one. ![]() ![]() During this time I got this crazy video of a northbound Amtrak Regional following just 2 minutes behind a northbound Acela Express on track #2 at the New Brunswick NJT station. Between the two Amtrak trains a northbound NJT NEC local arrives with ALP-46 #4645. The Amtrak Acela Express had power cars #2036 and #2017 while the Regional was hauled by ACS-86 #640. Also included is the Milepost 31.5 intermediate signal upgrading from Approach Limited to Clear as the southbound NJT train with #4624 and #7012 clear the signal blocks. My trip back to Bordentown would be courtesy of NJT cab car #7035 and Amerihealth wrapped RiverLINE DMU #3511. ![]() ![]() As you can see it was quite the exciting couple of hours and I assume something similar happens most weekday evenings. Definitely worth a visit if you can manage it. |
