R160 vs. R179

Posted by Q65A on Thu May 15 14:16:23 2025

Question: How can you distinguish an R160 from an R179?
Both contracts look very similar to me; is there any easy way to tell them apart (except for their car #'s)?

Six things that come to mind. The R179 has 1) light blue plastic around the windows rather than light gray; 2) larger red door lights; 3) narrower metal/rubber window frames/gaskets; 4) larger, full-height video screens left of the FIND; 5) different seams/wider overlap between the stainless steel panels of the car body sides; and, 6) brighter LED lights on the end route indicators.

For me it's the external side-destination signs (which would relate to the windows). It looks to me (though I don't know for sure) that at least one or two more characters/text can be fit on a R179 external side-sign than a R160 one if desired.

Looking head on the R160 black paint extends all the way to roof line. The 179 has a gap in the black paint and you will notice a metallic line between the roof line and black paint.

Hope that helps.
