Just to put things in perspective, the 6th Ave. line wouldn't open until after the Fair had closed permanently.

The world was changing when the fair re-opened in 1940. World War 2 had already begun. Several of the countries did not re-open their exhibits and Poland had had already been overrun.

Many of the young kids who went that fair would soon find themselves fighting in places like Guadalcanal, North Africa and Normandy.

The Baltics would be occupied within a short time.

Not to mention the city had just taken over the IRT and BMT.
