Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Mon May 5 07:31:43 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for May 5 1948 – from The Book of Last Runs This is the last day of operation on the eastern remnant of the former Jersey Central direct line between Jersey City and Newark. The following stations are closed; Pacific Avenue, Arlington Avenue, Jackson Avenue and West Side Avenue. The Hudson Bergen Light Rail now operates over a section of this line. |

I recall Dad bringing me on the shuttle, a camelback on the west end, pulling a coach. On the return trip, the conductor on the coach platform used an air hose to signal to the engineer. We got off at Jackson Avenue and climbed to the street to catch a trolley. Now, HBLR is at street level with crossing gates.Joe |
