In general usage, the difference between sabotage and vandalism is not the extent of the damage but the motive.Vandalism is usually done for the personal enjoyment of the perpetrator. Sabotage usually implies an additional motive, like getting revenge on the property owner, or making a political statement. Do you have any evidence that more was involved than disgusting individuals having their kind of "fun?" |

I don't think that sabotage fits here because the acts do not seem to fit the definition of sabotage. By the same token (no pun intended), is this vandalism by the traditional definition of vandalism as therevwas no apparent attempt to damage the equipment. Clearly trespassing or stretching to theft. |

No, if they worked for the MTA and deliberately damaged equipment, they'd be saboteurs. If they don't work for the MTA and damage equipment as part of their "fun", they're vandals.Unless they were trying to make some kind of "statement" about the evils of the MTA or New York State, along the lines of George Metesky, in which case they would be saboteurs. |
