1877 – from The Book of First and Last Runs

The 9th Avenue El is extended from Bowling Green to South Ferry. The station at No. 7 Broadway is closed at or about this time.

1918 – from The Book of First Runs

The IRT Jerome Avenue Line is extended from Kingsbridge Road to Woodlawn Road.


1919 – from The Book of First Runs

The IRT 7th Avenue -Varick Street Line was extended from Wall Street in Manhattan to Borough Hall in Brooklyn connecting to the Contract II Brooklyn Mainline. New stations are opened in Brooklyn at Clark Street and Borough Hall (the two level station used by 2 & 3 trains.)


1977 – from The Book of First Runs

The new northbound platform at Bowling Green Station on the IRT Lexington Avenue Line was opened today. It is a side platform located to the east of the northbound track. Hereafter the original island platform will only be used by southbound trains

2000 – from The Book of First Runs

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Line begins service between Exchange Place Station in Jersey City and 34 Street Station in Bayonne. Also opened was the section between Liberty State Park and West Side Avenue in Jersey City. The first train departed southbound from the Liberty State Park Station. The consist was ALRV’s 2028-2013. The consist of the second train was 2010 - 2027

Originally, the fence along the uptown side of the island platform was installed only at the southern end. Eventually, it was installed along the full length.
