Express Service on the West End Line

Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Thu Mar 13 08:16:39 2025

Two "W" and one "R" train that had previously operated over the Sea Beach Line will now be routed over the West End Line.

These trains will run express from 9th Avenue to Bay Parkway stopping only at 62nd Street.

The three trains are:
1) 0747 "R" Continental to 95 St.
2) 0833 "W" Ditmars to 86 St
3) 0917 "W" Ditmars to 86 St.

This information is from the ERA Bulletin for March 2025.

Speaking of schedule changes:

Anyone know why alternating midday B trains are being extended to Bedford Park Blvd from 145th St?

B schedule effective Feb 24

Hi Larry. Where do these 3 trains go after they reach their Brooklyn last stop?

I think it's because they are running at 8 minute intervals and can't turn them that fast at 145th.

So this extra service is not mainly for the benefit of passengers, but primarily to layup the trains?

Seems like the fastest way to get em to CI uard. Terminate at Bay Parkway middle.

Those trains run practically empty. Most trains going that way at that time do. You've got rush hour frequencies in the opposite direction of the rush.

Along the Culver I remember that they'd run reverse peak expresses just to clear the tracks too. You had all of these empty F trains that needed to get to CIY. My son went the Junior High on Ave S and he always wanted me to drop him at the express station because so many trains bypassed the local.

They are laid up in the Coney Island Yard.

This is correct. THis free up space on the Sea Beach Line. Something similar occurs on the IRT Jerome Avenue Line. Several AM train terminate at Burnside Avenue. They run via the express track north of 167th Street.

Back when the Lex express was the principal White Plains Rd service, after the last AM S/B thru exp cleared 149/3 returning N/B thru exps operated via the Wh Pl Rd middle between 149th and E 180th where they laid up.
