Other than head car operation is not rare though "several times a week" may be an "uncle bosie-like" exaggeration. If the facts are correct as stated and the crew did lose communication, the CORRECT PROCEDURE, the ruling procedure for other than head car operation, is to STOP THE TRAIN IMMEDIATELY - until positive communication can be re-established. In this case, if those are the "facts, look for the TSS to be sweeping platforms in a station in the very near future. |

Not necessarily. At the MTA, termination is reserved for more overt acts such as theft, assault or gross insubordination. In this case, there is no evidence that the result was intentional. Of course, one caveats being the employee's previous disciplinary record. |

I said that it's never done on the subway. Long Island RR might have different operating rules. I will add that before such a move is done in the subway, it was the practice to use a rescue train to safely move passengers off of the disabled train. |

Oh yeah.Road a Amtrak train on the Hartford line like that several years ago..no engineer in the front car, but there was some one there with radio.. Train just didn't "feel right" for some reason, and when I got off at New Haven, I walked to the front, and saw that it wasn't a cab car at all. Took a Metro North local the rest of the way to Grand Central. Haven't been back on Springfield by train ever since.. even when the line was practically taken over by ConnDot today. |

I was on a NJ transit train that had a control cab issue. The engineer ran it from the engine with a conductor in the cab car. |
