Kids trespassing NY Atlantic

Posted by LuchAAA on Sun Apr 21 17:17:33 2024

Young kids, between the ages of about 12-14 have figured out how to trespass NY Atlantic yards at Fresh Pond and Metropolitan.

It's the site of the old LIRR Fresh Pond Road station on the Lower Montauk branch.

It looks dangerous. They start where the old bumping block is on Fresh Pond then cross the overpass which is somewhat narrow and has pipes running the length. This requires some balancing.

Then they go down to the tracks. I guess the stairs along the embankment wall are still intact.

I contacted NY Atlantic and am waiting for a response. I feel like an old man snitch. I'm actually genuinely concerned as it does seem dangerous.

I'm sure kids have been doing that for decades.

You're right. Kids have been trespassing for years.

At this location you could just enter the abandoned LIRR Fresh Pond Road station.

Now they cross the concrete overpass then use the old stairs to the Manhattan-bound platform. The overpass seems dangerous.

They were very young. 12-14 years old.

Way down the line where it's the Bay Ridge Branch, we were ALWAYS going on the freight AND subway tracks of the Sea Beach. We would walk the right of way of we were going ro the Avenue I flea market. We would walk under the Bay Ridge Towers. Back then you had to watch for aggressive dogs as well as pedophiles and other creeps.

I spoke to someone at NY Atlantic. He said he will tell the security guard to pass by there more often.

I told him I would not have bothered to call if this was a grade crossing or hole in a fence trespassing. It's a narrow overpass that has significant deterioration, mostly falling concrete, and pipes. The kids were very young.

Maybe a fence will stop them.

Btw.

They put yellow fiberglass catwalk on the old LIRR Montauk Cutoff where it crosses the Newtown Creek.

The ties are visibly spaced apart and someone could fall in. Maybe someone did.

I guess they know they can't stop trespassing and had to address the issue.

True. Plus the frivolous lawsuits by the parents (mothers)
