… The tunnel has some history.

In the 1980s it was drab, dirty, and poorly lit until it was cleaned up by the city. Through the years, graffiti artists added to the walls, but in 2022 the city decided to paint over their drawings. That sparked backlash from members of the community who said it was an erasure of their culture.

“It was like an empty feeling when they painted the whole thing in that way, as they did quickly and without announcing anything…it was like when you get out, you are breathing. And it was like what happened,” said Vicky Azcoitia, a documentary photographer and graphic design artist. …
To blazes with their "culture".

That so-called “beautification project”, was one the dumbest ideas to come from the NYCDOT. They had no problem with putting up the “artwork”, but maintaining it? We all knew the outcome of that blunder. What a waste.

2022 the city decided to paint over

On 1/17/23 the Daily News published a story about the nasty conditions in the tunnel, and NYC DOT painted it three days later. Where is the proof that this was "decided" last year, or is this just another stupid, careless error from a local reporter?

"is this just another stupid, careless error from a local reporter? "

Or is it the reporting that embarrassed the DOT into taking action that they had been putting off for too long?

Uh, no. The $30 million is for a completely separate renovation project in 2025, not for repainting.

Mainstream media reporters write whatever they please, and we are supposed to take it as absolute truth.

As it says in 1984, "It is impossible to see reality except through the eyes of the Party" . . .

That’s why there are many news outlets, as opposed to the one party in 1984. The competition between them leads to leads, and truth usually will out.

Hmm.
I am not going to claim that I liked graffiti.
I didn't, and still don't.
Granted, I've seen some wonderful pieces, by perhaps stealth artists working through the night to create breathtaking works of art.

I've also seen horrible tags all over the place, especially in Bushwick.. Where along Myrtle Avenue, almost every building from Wycoff Ave to Broadway is covered with this crap.

I detest the ugliness of it all.

Art is in the eye of the beholder.

However, the callous nature of You finality explains You And Your comment as a whole.

What makes this even more horrible, is This is Exactly what is expected From you.
Truly a sad thing see.
