Main St (#7) is one of the few island-platform stations with full separate station name mosaics.  1998, when the original white wall tiles were covered over with new ones, but not covering the stripe or station name:  The BMT 4 Av island-platform station walls have decorative stripes, with the station names within the stripes, not separate. The problem with these is that they're mostly dark, dingy, dirty, and in the shadows, so they're hard to see.

Yes, 110 St and 72 St had mostly blank side walls, with occasional mosaic decorations but no street names:     14 St originally had side platforms (in addition to the island platforms) which were decorated and had name mosaics. They've since been walled off, but some of the decorations have been moved to the mezzanine and are now very visible and accessible.       |

Getting back to the vicinity of 149th St., what about the name of the station one stop to the south on the 4 and 5, 138th St.-Grand Concourse? The name tablets there were redone not long ago to read "138th Street - Mott Haven" (or to alternate between saying "138th Street" and "Mott Haven"). So I was expecting "Grand Concourse" to be replaced by "Mott Haven" in the official name of the station, but so far that has not happened. (And for a while before the rehab, the signs read just "138 Street" as if that were the full name of the station, but that doesn't seem to be the case either.) |

However, the stops along the Pelham Line don’t contain the name “138th St” in any of the titles although 3rd Ave had the designation “138th St” added sometime during its history” the stations along 138 St on the Wh Pl Rd line did not originally display the description “138th St” but simply said “Mott Avenue” (the original name of that part of the Grand Concourse) and "Third Avenue.” The 138 St subscripts were added later. |
