Those of you of German descent may recall that December 6 was the feast day of Saint Nicholas aka Santa Claus. The day is sometime known as "Little Christmas". As a kid I lived in a neighborhood with a large German population and it was traditional to receive one gift on the day. Unfortunately St. Nicholas got busted back in the sixties and that was the end of that.

I remember seeing signs at Franklin & Atlantic Aves with the times of which trains were running and when, and they were to the half minute! This was back in the mid 60s as I was going to the orthodontist at 1 Hanson Pl to/from Church Ave. At the times I would go there were no expresses as they terminated at Atlantic mid-day just as posted above.

And while the front signs had a route number the side signs didn't, and you just looked for your destination on the side.

Are you sure about the date for “Little Christmas?” I went to Catholic school and we were taught the “Little Christmas” was another name for the Feast of the Epiphany which is January 6.

Yes, we Catholics are supposed to leave the tree up until Epiphany.
