Diesels on the Far Rockaway LIRR?

I live near the Cedarhurst LIRR station and can always hear when the trains are pulling in and out. For the last few weeks, I’ve been hearing Diesel engines passing through the station without stopping. I can hear the motors and the different kind of horns. These only come late at night, like after 11 pm.

Anyone know what these diesels are doing?

Really? That does make sense, since I’ve been hearing the diesels more often since September.

No more Gel trains. Wash trains, alcohol trains to defrost/anti-freeze third rail and Laser trains to burn off the gunk.
