Yeah, it is 125th Street going uptown. The route request box gives it away though.

I am terrible at these but that doesn't look like.i25th st. I don't recall a wall on the off side at 125th street.

Look a little closer.

There is a track to the left of the train, then there is the other platform.

That photo looks to be taken at the same location as this one on nycsubway.org which is identified as 125th St. One wonders if it was taken the same day, since it's also credited to Steve Zabel.

But it wasn't the same day as the florescent lights are on when in the first picture they are still being installed.

Yes, they did. Some received a light green treatment later - not to be confused with that godawful pistachio green. My IND sign box still has light green paint on the upper hinged lid.

No headlights on the lead motor - an experience not to be missed! I remember it well. Tunnel I-beams between the tracks were reduced to silhouettes.

In the first color picture the 10 car marker is straight, in the other photos it is on an angle.

Only the pic in the fluorescent light is it straight. Certainly after the installation of the new lights was complete did they move the marker over to straighten it out.

During PM Rush Hour if a Platform Conductor was standing there, he'd "bell in" for you to identify your train for 135th Street Tower.

What appears in that photo is not a wall but a staircase.

Originally, there was no button box at 125 St. There was a toggle switch in the tower adjacent to the T/D’s desk that the T/D would activate to notify 135 St Tower whether the train was for Wash Hts or the Concourse. I can’t recall exactly when but sometime just before Chrystie St, the button box was installed even though the train ID switch in the tower remained connected.

Did it also have Concourse Express vs. Local since both arrived on the express track at 125th?

I saw another photo today of a 100-series car on an E. That was unusual. Maybe an R1 off an A got to an E consist at Pitkin.

The motorman is opening his cab door to punch the 2 old button callbox to 135 tower from the platform!

The original one didn’t since Concourse lcls and exps did not operate at the same time, so during off hours, all Concourse trains on the exp tk at 125 ran lcl on the Concourse and during PM rush hours all Concourse trains on the exp tk at 125 ran exp on the Concourse. With all the switches at both 125 And 135 St are controlled from a single master tower, there are more push buttons to deal with reroutes.

Thanks. I'm surprised that box wasn't mounted closer to the cab window.

I was reading through the ERA bulletins and while there were assignments by yard, there were also lots of exceptions and cars were shifted around all the time as needed.

It is mounted close enough, but if the M/M wasn’t stopped at precisely the 10 car mark, he probably couldn’t reach it anyhow.
