A & C line FUBAR

Posted by r33/r36 mainline on Mon Aug 2 18:12:55 2021

A & C all messed up, C/R says train is BIE at Fulton street, TA website says smoke condition at Fulton street, a total mess!

BTW A and C trains are going via the F in BOTH directions right now. Must be a fire and a train in BIE in the station at the same time!

Beyond all repair, eh?

Alas for the Eighth Avenue Line.

From MTA website: A and C service is temporarily suspended in both directions between Manhattan and Brooklyn after a train struck a shopping cart on the tracks at Fulton St.

A and C using Rutgers Tunnel between Jay-Metrotech and W 4th. More details on re-routes at MTA website.

I walked from Canal to Fulton to catch the J instead (yes I know I could have gotten the J at Canal street which is closer but I wanted a seat) when I got to Fulton the A/C lines platforms were taped off.

I wonder how this caused BOTH tracks to be shut down though? Each direction has separate tubes.

Smoke condition cause by the collision impacted both tracks in the station area.

Huh.

1. Metal shopping carts are property of somebody’s supermarket, I’ve never seen them bought by the public. So, stolen property in plain sight, nobody does nuthin’ about it.
2. Shopping carts are not permitted in the system, that I know of. Nobody did nuthin’.
3. Throwing anything on the tracks including ordinary litter is a hazard, that brings huge rats and occasionally fires. Nobody …

I’m not sure whether it’s the skell, the City Council, the Mayor or the Governor who should be chilling on Rikers for a year or three for vandalizing a subway train and thousands of people’s transit. All of the above sounds good to me.

It may not have been a super market cart but one of the personal folding kinds. It also may not have been thrown but fell accidentally.

That makes sense actually. It would be challenge to get a full size supermarket cart down the stairs (or into 2 elevators) and then through the fare gate. Some sort of folding wheeler is essential if you wanna shop without a car, even if you’re under 50.

TA learned NOTHING from the death of Train Operator Garrett Goble.

Now back to my usual grouching. But I think this take isn’t just that, it’s also the truth:

TA doesn’t want to change anything after the murder of Garret Goble. If they tried and spoke the truth, people would be fired. Attacking society is now happening from both the top and the bottom, with some of the middle being pulled into the game.

Recently there was a ban on carts and carriages over a certain size limit. I know for sure there is absolutely no enforcement on this ban as I continued to bring my full size laundry cart on the subway for my Trader Joe's shopping trips and not a single member of enforcement batted an eye. Of course, it was quite obvious I was consciously securing that cart at all times because I'm sure as heck making sure my groceries get home and not letting anyone stupid make my cart go somewhere it shouldn't.

And speaking of them not learning from the Goble incident, that was obvious as early as that time someone threw a rollsign box in the tracks at Nostrand and that R32 C coming in hit it, made a huge explosion and I believe the operator lost part of their hearing because of that and sustained minor injuries. The sad part is many know who did that too and although they were found, of course let go shortly after. (I don't believe in incarceration in terms of punishment for most things anyway, there needs to be more of a focus on awareness and healing rather than continually punishing and enslaving a person's time when they could just simply be made aware of what they did wrong, get the help they need and return to living their life properly and not brutalized and traumatized by the prison system so much that it shapes the mental state of an individual to go right back into prison). It's just the fact a dangerous incident happened by having a rollsign on the tracks and it appears that it wasn't an obvious enough warning sign to transit an incident like that can easily happen again and a quick training on what to do in those situations to survive depending on where the incident might happen. Ventilation wise, 110th Central Park North is probably one of the worst spots in the system for that to happen, but a preventative training measure for all operators on what to do in that situation and where to go at the right time may have influenced a better outcome to that tragic situation.

Awareness and healing does work in the case of shoplifting and minor crimes. Community service and commuted sentencing are usually a part of those plea deals as well. Completely throwing out cash bail and the catch and release systems in place in the name of defunding the police for assaults ensures to those engaged in criminal enterprises that crime pays. It also didn't help we lost NYC's anti crime officers. I'd imagine its more difficult now for a conductor to obtain police when absolutely needed.
