They are content to see some equipment rot and be scrapped. They have already done so with the MP54. Looks like the DD1 is next.

Shown here several decades ago in Strasburg's back yard is yours truly engaging in a fantasy. This is about as close to running a steam engine as I'll ever get!

That is an unfair comment. The staff and volunteers have worked very hard to make it into a first class museum. They built a massive display hall that houses many pieces of equipment. Nevertheless it take a great deal of money plus time and effort to place all the exhibits under cover. So unfortunately some pieces will remain in the open for the time being.

Maybe you should consider volunteering down there or making a contribution. They certainly could use the help.

Electric preservation in the US is basically non existent. The Reading car they have inside looked mostly intact, but would need the electric guts rebuilt (if it's a dry transformer, no PCBs, so there's that going for it.). Naturally, the DD-1 has no PCBs, since it's a DC unit (no transformer)

Shown here is GG1 4913 rusting away in the backyard of the RR museum of Altoona. Its true of all museums. All you need is caring and dedicated folks with deep pockets to keep the rust from winning.

most of time its not money that is problem , unless you want to make it operational. biggest problem for museums is volunteers , who are willing to get dirty and spend countless hours without much recognition.

believe me , there is no shortage of critics , both on line and at job site telling how to do it better but not offering help.
