With the interiors of the Superliners being upgraded, that certainly is a great new look for the riders. Eventually the upgrades will be seen on the Capitol Ltd.

Wonderful news about the dining car upgrades. But that aspect couldn't get much worse, except bring all your meals, snacks and drinks with you.

I certainly hope these 75 new Siemens locos have a sufficient modification that will not cause them to shutdown in a snow event.....and that the current ones can be so modified.

Biggest problem with the Siemens engines is ingesting snow and ice, especially into the brake resistors, causing GCI circuits to trip, shutting the unit down. The were not great in holding their cool on hot summer days last summer either.

With half the corridor service running in Chicago last Februarry, they still ran out of usuable engines. Amtrak maintains these state-owned engines, yet charges the state money for a substitute loco out of the national network pool.

2 of 34 have grade crossing damage, and Siemens is refusing to supply replacment body parts.
2 more of the 34 have blown holes in their engine blocks, having blown up or caught fire.

IOW, they suck, the manufactuere is arrogant, and NYS-DOT and MTA are going to completely replace their dual-mode Genesis and all Super Steels with them.
