You're right. As a person of color, it's ALWAYS a "problem". Anybody here remember when Robinson, a black plainclothes transit cop, (on duty) got shot on an F train by DelDebbio, a white city cop (off duty).Many people cannot understand how we as people of color experience life. We are REGULARLY treated like this by the few unprofessional, bigoted cops who prey on minorities. As I see it, the only thing unusual about Salaam Allah's experience is that, through the Internet, he can report it to a large group. Just like the only thing unusual about the retired schoolteacher being beaten in N.O. is that somebody got it all on film. Salaam, sue the LACMTA and the cops for the *entire system* then we'll all have a big electric train set to play with. Also sue them for $1,000,000 for every minute you were in custody. P.S. You go right on taking pics. I always did enjoy them, and it's (last time I looked) still your 1st Amendment right to do so!!!! |

A terrorist may want to phtograph where exits are placed to prevent innocent people from escaping, he may want to take pictures of rush hour loads to see how many people are riding a specific line to do the most damage, etc.Muhuhhmad Atta was in New York several days before September 11 2001 at the World Trade Center to scope it out. Its not known whether he took pictures or not but still he was there before the attack. Don't get me wrong Sallam, I love your pictures and have admired all the work you have done on various web sites. I'm also sure its very degrading to be treated badly by police officers. I've been pulled over several times in New Jersey by State troopers for doing nothing! Asked where do I work and why I wasn't at work but I just answer politely and put in a complaint in the form of letters to the Jersey State Police IAD or a local newspaper. I'm hispanic and my wife is African American, and unfortunately this is what we have to live with. Good luck though on your future endeavors. |

( hell i was just another nigger ) ........LACMTA SHERIFFS how do you describe something like that when you know you are BLACK and in southern california all black peoples are CRIMINALS FIRST !! do you understand we had two rebellions / explosions here ?? the police brutality / courtroom injustices ran KKK NAZI GESTAPO amuck ? the horrible things they sad between each other aimed at me the maximum to try to set me off so they can justify brutality whats next strip rape ?? and i had no rights nobody speaking in my behalf just a bunch of uniformed PIGS with thier NAZI UNIFORMS what in the hell is my crime?? what did i do ?? what penal code ?? when am i going to what court when ?? for what ?? ..... Montana Street Pasadena, CA 91103 Re: Wrongful detention and interrogation by Sherrif's Officers at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Gold Line Station (Union) This is to notify you that on Sunday, October 16, 2005 while I was taking photos on the MTA Blue, Green, and Gold Lines. As I was about to embark onto the GoldLine train at the Union Station I was stopped by two Sherrif's officers who began to question me as to why I was taking photos, and accused me of trying to impersonate an MTA employee. I was detrained for more than three hours between 3:00 to 6:00 pm. I explained to the officers that I have taken the MTA Safety Course at the Los Angeles Blue Line and was issued a Safety Badge in 2003. I was directed to take this course and given a vest to wear by an MTA employee so that I would recognized as having going through the proper procedure as directed and set out under MTA guidelines for those, like myself, who are rail fans. On this day I had in pocession: 1. An MTA Safety Badge, with my name and I.D. number given to me by the (LACMTA) Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority personnel. My Safety Badge remains up-to-date from the time of issuance, and indicates I have been "safety trained" at the Long Beach Blue Line Yards. 2. I was in possession of valid California State I.D. in the form of my drivers license which was presented to the officers on demand. 3. I was wearing the bright orange Blue Line Yard Safety vest given to me by an authorized and bonafied MTA supervisor in 2003. 4. My rail museum membership badges, pins (Orange Empire Rail Museum, and other Rail Groups) I.D.s were prominently displayed on my Safety vest. 5. My still photographic cameras were around my neck and marked for I.D. with LACMTA tags. 6. I had a valid paid MTA rail day pass which I had purchased prior to boarding the train that morning. Despite my cooperation with the officers, I was handcuffed, roughly marched through the station and made to sit in the cold handcuffed and told to shut-up unless I was being questioned. The officers refused to tell me whether or not I was under arrest? Why I was being detained? What I being charged with? Or allow me my right to remain silent! By the time my three hour detention was ended, a crowd had gathered and there were at least eight officers including a watch officer all of whom were threatening to take me to jail without charge, all the while threatening to take my cameras, and safety badge, vest and other I.D. I was later released without so much as a citation. Needlesstosay, this incident left me bewildered, depressed and extremely shaken! I have yet to recover fully. My intent, as a rail fan, was to take beautiful photos to of the train system of which I am so proud to share with other rail fans throughout the country by way of the internet. I am, respectfully requesting your help to resolve this matter to mininize the possibility of this kind of unwarranted harrassment from ever happening again.. Thank you, Salaam W.
