[PHOTOS] Penn Station LIRR New Entrance

Posted by Bill Newkirk on Mon Feb 22 18:46:59 2021

I don't if it was reported here but I checked out this new 7th Ave escalator equipped entrance that takes LIRR riders directly instead of funneling them at the 32nd St entrance.

All the of concessions are seem to be boarded up on this level including Rosa's Pizza. If you want pizza, you'll have to go to the Amtrak level for Don Pepi.

What I like about that new entrance is you can see the Empire State Building as you are riding up the escalator.

They ruined Penn even more by closing all the retail on the LIRR Concourse.. bummed about that as I use to buy food from those businesses.

Especially Nedicks.... I loved those hotdogs on toasted buns. Used to buy them for 25c before catching a train to Long Island.

They are widening the LIRR Concourse which is why the stores are closing.

Will any stores come back after construction is done, or is that whole wall to remain permanently devoid of retail ?

I don't know. If not, that would be a shame. A late night Rosa run for a slice and a beer before hoping on the LIRR after a game at MSG or the Stadium or just a late night out was a nice option. Or a drink at Tracks.

The Rose's nearest 8th Avenue was the better one. When laying up between trains, I would go there in the late afternoon, sit in the back, and relax over a slice and a coke.

If those stores return after the widening, they'll be much smaller in dimensions.

Pre-pandemic, at the height of the PM rush hour, did you ever try to make you way to the IRT subway ? It was like walking past a herd of charging bulls !

Widening the concourse is long over due.
